Things you wish you could say

When I was little, we always used to stop in the summer at the top of mountain passes in the Colorado Rockies, get out of the car and drink from the high mountain streams flowing from under melting snow pack. It was icy cold, crystal clear and like water from the throne of heaven! I wish I could...

Nope, water from different regions of the country tastes way different, and it depends on what you get used to. Grew up in Denver. We'd visit relatives in Phoenix occasionally. The city water there somehow did not quench thirst, no matter how much you drank. You could walk around sloshing and...

He may be on medication that requires him to avoid sunshine, or could be photosensitive ( basically, allergic to the sun). People who have had bone marrow transplants have to avoid sun exposure. As do folks who've had melanoma. I'm sure he's not doing it to annoy you.

Thank you, Bee! Yeah, it takes patience. And persistence. And an unshakeable belief that what you are doing is necessary and will ultimately benefit your young person. This story made me so happy. Sometimes getting my kid to do necessary things has been difficult too, but not like this. Oh, the...

Oh good grief. They just made it so much harder for him, didn't they. Kids like him need consistency. Well truly, all kids do, but especially kids on the spectrum. The world is so confusing for them already. Sounds like they didn't do him any favors.

Bee, thank you for this. Many a child has been handicapped, not by a condition, but by their parents' low expectations of them, and their failure to find out how to help their child succeed. My GS is on the spectrum and also has ADHD. When he first came to stay with us, I was at a total loss. I...

Asperger's is a part of the Autism Spectrum and a person with this disorder can certainly appear lazy, but generally (IME) they are not. They perceive and experience the world differently than the way the rest of us do. Without early intervention they may lack the skills and strategies to...

You guys are making me feel like I'm missing something by having no idea what Reddit is or what's up with it but at the same time making me not even wanting to go there or have anything to do with it. In other words, you're really triggering the bipolar in me! :lau So I'm just gonna do this...

A lot of what they read is just "busy-work," silliness, mindless entertainment. Okay. Captain Underpants for one. That whole genre. So it's fun, teaches them reading is fun, I get that. Couldn't Capt Underpants visit a farm or a zoo, where, incidentally, he learns the difference between a cow...
