I’ve got a couple BCs gone broody. One is an old pro, so I gave her 5 RIR eggs. The other is a young one from last year’s hatching. I’m letting her prove herself before giving eggs. The old girl pecked my wife yesterday 😂. She is always sweet to me. I get a warning screeeech and that’s all.
I moved my brats to the outside brooder today. I’ll spare you the creepy red light pic. I need to pick my keepers soon so I can advertise the rest of them.
Yeah, I hatched off her last year. She was super broody too. I think she’s around 2.5 years old now. Ok, I looked it up. She will be 3 years old end of this summer.
Overexposure mostly. My pens have a lot of ventilation but the rooster overflow is a 10x10 chainlink dog pen with a makeshift tarp roof. I don’t use it unless everything else is full.
I need to combine some of my pens and make room for new birds. Right now, I have one empty apartment suitable for keeping them safe. I don’t count the rooster overflow coz it’s safe (kind of) but a little breeezy.
Not right now. I don’t like to stack hatches too close together.
30 RIRs and 11 BCs.
My outside brooder will hold this group for about 2 to 3 weeks and they will be boiling out the top.
