I was thinking something like a wooden frame attached to the porch supports, and then attaching your trellis to the wooden frame. I can't tell from your picture where you want to extend the cattle panel trellis. but if you could extend a wood frame from one post to the other I think it would...

🤔 Sounds like a possible solution to protect the sacrificial plywood. I have lots of empty feed bags, many that are made out of plastic like material, that should work for something like that. Originally, I bought some off cut linoleum piece for my coop floor, but I don't want to do that again...

:caf I had a few hügelkultur raised beds at the same time I was in-ground planting my garden. Everything seemed to grow about the same for me, and for years I thought my hügelkultur raised beds were only more or less a good way to get rid of some excess wood from storm cleanup projects. Plus...

 Yikes! That would be a bad day for anybody. As I stated, I have a chicken run that is predator resistant mainly to prevent daytime attacks. At night, my chickens are locked up in a Fort Knox coop that I don't think even a bobcat could get into. I just have 2X4 inch welded wire for the...

We had a terrible drought summer a few years back. All my in-ground garden plants dried up and died because I did not have running water for that garden. The only plants that lived to produce any fruit that drought summer were in my hügelkultur raised beds. I maybe only got 60-70% of a normal...

I was using a lot of older seeds, and that may have had some bearing on my rather poor results. However, upon reflection, I really believe I just chose the wrong potting mix for my seed starting this year. I got a big bag of Master Gardener's potting mix from Menards this year which was very...

Sorry, I have no experience with raising goats. All I know is that they are pretty smart and seem to find a way out of their pens. I would like to have a few goats, but Dear Wife is a hard "no" on that adventure.

⚠️ Another Pallet Wood Protective Cover For Raised Beds I have been busy planting stuff out in my raised beds the past few days. One problem that I have this year is that something is getting into the raised beds and digging around the topsoil. I suspect it is squirrels looking to dig up and...

That's a good suggestion. I myself use the carabineer and hasp type locks hardware on my coop and run. I have never (knock on wood) had a raccoon problem, but for me the biggest advantage of using hasps and carabineers is that I am still able to close, and lock, my doors and gates even though...

:idunno Yeah, we all have different challenges with potential predators. My chicken run is predator resistant, but not predator proof. I mainly only have to worry about neighborhood dogs coming around during the daytime. At night, the chickens get locked up in a Fort Knox chicken coop. I felt my...

:old It's been a while, but I painted myself into a corner (so to speak) on a few jobs in my time. I looked at your framing on the ground and immediately thought to myself that was going to be a real challenge to lift up into place. Glad you worked it out OK. I liked your pictures of the...

We have had three days of rain here, so I did not get too much done outside. I took the "down time" to finishing building another two half-sized 2X4 foot pallet wood raised beds to put alongside the back of my chicken run. My plan is to use the chicken run fence as a trellis for things like peas...

Looks great. I have been considering making similar small frames like that to use as a mini greenhouse to maybe get some plants out 2 weeks earlier and/or add a number of weeks of growth at the end of the year. I like the idea of being able to put them on and take them off at will. Other than...

Late this winter, I built four new 4X4 foot, 16-inch-high pallet wood raised beds. Here is a picture of some of them... I filled them with hügelkultur wood, then an organic layer, and today I was working on mixing the top 6-8 inches with a topsoil/chicken run compost 1:1 mixture. I got 2-1/2...

Pallet wood, salvaged wood, it's about the same to me. Most of my salvaged wood these days is coming from the same places where I pick up my pallets. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a really big fan of almost all types of squash. Buttercup being the favorite, but butternut and other yellow type squash as well. :idunno Zucchini is one of my go-to veggies, but in season, Dear Wife complains we have too many. As soon as they are gone, she is in the store buying zucchini...

I did not know about that. I'll have to check into it some more. My buttercup squash vines spread out 20-30 feet and basically took over the garden. Maybe there are Butterbush varieties with shorter vines of buttercup squash as well?

Thanks for the pictures. Looks like some deer protection cage to me. You might have been able to re-engineer your design to get around that panels having to be screwed in place. I'm thinking back to your wire hinges and using a bungee cord as a latch.

:idunno Correction: I meant to say buttercup squash, not butternut squash, is our favorite. And I have started a number of buttercup squash plants for transplanting. We also like the butternut squash, and other types of squash, but buttercup squash is what I meant to say.
