Sometimes they just hang out enjoying the nest. Which is a nice change from them kicking all the bedding out.

Yeah. But the price we pay for our lovely, mild winters and extended spring and fall weather. 🤷‍♀️ What a beautiful snake! I'm afraid that the ones around here have actually burrowed UNDER the 18" of wire apron.:eek::eek::eek::eek: Possibly following the tracks of decaying tree...

A little mash is a great way to get some hydration into the birds. I only do it once a week even in the worst weather, but I think it's helpful.

If you put your hand behind their feet and press against their ankle they'll step up and you can carry them like a parrot. I find that causes less panic than grasping them around the wings. Of course I only do that inside the coop so that they don't jump off and get lost.

I use the cheap 50# bag from the feed store. It's labeled "calcium grit" and lasts about 2 years.

I offer oyster shell free choice all the time. I feed all-flock type feed because I have a mixed flock with juveniles and males so the ladies need calcium. I also feed their eggshells back to them, dried and crushed.

My fig is about to bear its first real crop. I've been watching carefully since I know that figs go from ripe to rotten in no time flat. The egg watch is always so exciting. Anyone playing in the nests and kicking the bedding out?
