    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

The reason I am pointing out the incorrect terminology is not to prove a point, it is to aid in the dissemination of information. Imagine you were taught that apples were called pears as of 20 years ago and so you tried searching pears to learn more about apples. You would find information on...

    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

I understand what is trying to be conveyed. It's a rebranding of something, I get it. It's not the terminology that was used 20 years ago and I was just pondering what the original name for that type of bed was.

Yes A keyhole garden is typically round and has a wedg cut out of it so the Gardner can tend to the center area. They are raised beds with compost and other yard waste being mainly in the center then covered with soil and added to seasonally. That's why earlier I said it sounded like you are...

    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

I think you are mistaking keyhole type raised beds for hugelkulture garden beds. Hugelkulture beds are a defined type of structure and when you deviate from that definition you start to build other things.

    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

Try to find old hugelkulture literature and very little of it is in a raised bed. generally you should dig a hole and fill it with compost and large branches/ logs ect and build it up several feet so there is a large mound for you to grow on later. The raised bed / hugel mix style sounds...

    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

The first time I read about hugel beds was probably 10 years ago and everything i read said that it should sit at least a year. You are not meant to plant in them the first year. People are just impatient and it creates issues with stuff like settling which wouldn't be an issue if people could...

    Hügelkultur Raised Beds

I had blueberry bushes and sage growing in an hugelkulture bed for several years, I also grew tomatoes in the same bed. I think most people aren't filling in there hugel beds enough while building them and that's why there is so much settling. I fill all gaps with cardboard, leaves, compost...
