If anyone wants to gender guess some more Barnevelders, check out my newest babies in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/looking-for-pics-of-blue-laced-barnevelders.1612835/post-28411278

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

They are feed store chicks from Privett Hatchery... which I think is now owned by Hoover and unfortunately I don't see any blue barnies on their website this year. Honestly they're not the best in type... I guess typical hatchery birds. But I don't mind. Unfortunately we may not be keeping...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Do you still have this guy? I’d love to see what he looks like now. We opted to keep Cloudy the blue because Ronnie’s color was really not great. His silver was goldish and he had red/gold leakage on his wings. He was also extremely timid, flighty, and fearful. Cloudy on the other hand I love...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Oh my gosh! I have not been getting notifications from this thread for some reason! Here are my 3 hens. Top is Foggy. I don’t think she’s laying yet even though she’s the biggest roundest and fluffiest meatball of a bird. 2nd pic is Misty. She’s the smallest of the 3, the most light...

I think you’re all right. I was freaking myself out prematurely!

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Misty is refusing to come out of the brooder for pics. This is the best I could do. Misty is the chick whose comb is turning pinkish-orange. Her chest color I think indicates female, but then again my obvious male has a loudly patterned chest, too. Just for fun here is Cloudy the male. I...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Every time I try to get a pic, there’s either too much or not enough light, lol! I just moved them out to the big run, and the brooder or little chick area is under the roofed portion, so now my pics are going to be dark and probably too backlit for goood comparison. But here’s a couple more...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Guys! Please tell me this is my imagination! Of my four 4-week old blue Barnie “sexed pullets”, 1 is a boy. I’m okay with that. But what about the others?? Tell me I’m just being paranoid! Cloudy is 100% male. No doubt. In spite of the breast pattern. I get it. It happens. Hatcheries promise...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Sorry, Ronnie is 12 weeks. (I realized I typed 3, lol!) Definitely a boy. He’s not blue, but is a silver double laced. Cloudy is a blue. He is actually 3 weeks old (maybe thats what I was thinking about before). Cloudy was supposed to be a pullet, but I’m saying no. Here is Cloudy, the...

Ronnie at 12 weeks. He seems to have less patterning now than he did when he was younger. Very curious how he’s going to turn out. Looks like 1 of my blue Barnevelder “pullets” is a roo. Now I’m going to have to choose between the two as they grow up.

Ronnie at 10 wks. Guess I need to stop living in denial, lol.

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

I would really prefer for @Starrponies to be correct, but I’m still thinking cockerel, too. Although I’m less confident than I was a couple weeks ago.

    Ronnie now (8 weeks).

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

I hope you’re right! We decided we’re keeping him regardless, but I’d still prefer a hen. If Ronnie is a roo and a nice bird, we’re going to set up a small breeding flock for him. But I’m not 100% set on breeding silver Barnies, so I’m like a hen and then I can keep be indecisive about what I...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

I’ll get some pics a little later today. Right now it is yucky rainy outside where Ronnie is. It’s dry inside, and also a little distracting… It’s HATCH DAY!!!!

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

I need to get more updated pics. Ronnie’s comb has not gotten any larger or redder. It is still more orange/red than my pullets, but isn’t as brilliant red as my 2 other cockerels. He still doesn’t have a lot of lacing pattern and the chest is entirely black. So I still think it a a boy...

    Gender guess 4 week Barnevelder

Almost 6 weeks. In the first pic, the lighting makes the comb look more pink than it is. While the wattles are red, the comb is still pretty yellow. Comb also hasn’t grown much in the last few weeks. It’s probably wishful thinking, but im still 🤞 Ronnie turns out to be a girl!

Updated photos of Ronnie now 5 weeks. Still won’t say definitively but the pink in those waddles screams cockerel to me.

It’s still a baby, but probably a cockerel.

This is Ronnie, a silver double laced barnevelder. Purchased straight run from a local breeder. Any guess on gender? I know it’s early, but you know me I love guessing! Truthfully though, I’m on the fence with this one.
