Nadine, You may find further responses on the FB page for the breed...https://www.facebook.com/groups/115040158685042/ I'm in California, but my flock is too small yet to be able to yet sell chicks.

Kitspur, Very sorry to hear of your outbreak. I dealt with it once growing up in the Catskills in upstate New York, before there was a vaccine, and it wiped out my entire flock, over 150 birds. I don't know what part of the country you are in, but I could send a roo for the cost of shipping...

Look at those necks! Nice high carriage as well. I'll try and post some pics as well of my 5-week olds...it's just tough with the kids attempting to chase after them all the time.

Thanks Gallus! My second hatch came out....and even better, 19 out of 24 this time. Right now I'm looking mainly at overall size and leg length as the two primary measures of who will stay and who will go. So out of the first hatch, I'll keep 2 out of the 6 cockerels, and sell the rest. Then...

So now that my first hatch is a month old, I'm noticing a very definitive difference in comb and wattle development...being either crazy big, or not big at all, with not one "in-between" bird. Have you all found, as it pertains only to WFBS, that the comb and wattle in your young birds has been...

Liberty, Great face on the roo, white lobes proportionate to the red lobes, and good girth on the hens!

Greetings all, Had a great first hatch, and have 16 nice chicks developing and another 24 eggs in the Brinsea, but in the meantime my hens are still laying if anyone is up for an egg swap. I can FedEx Overnight or USPS priority mail them. Have a great Memorial Day!

Hey Gallus, I would very much enjoy an egg swap! Just finishing up a nice first hatch (16 out of 24 when I left work this morning so far), and have collected 6 eggs for the 2nd hatch so far. So we could swap now if you wanted, or we can wait until I'm gearing up collection for the 3rd hatch...

So just weighed the birds, and sadly my guesstimate was way off. Cock is only 6.5, and the hens only 4.5. Rather discouraging, but we'll see what happens with the chicks at the end of the year I guess.

Hi Gallus, Look at the faces on those birds, so few wrinkles and long backs, that's great, may have to buy some stock from you next year if my wife allows me to get a second breeding pen going Or perhaps some eggs or chicks later in the year? I still have to put them on a scale, but will...

My new WFBS breeding pen! Very excited. Hope that the white tips on the tail and wing I see will moult out, as they are just a year old, and definitely have to cull hard for 'leggier' chicks. But their top line is great, nice back length.
