Strange, most of my hens are around 5-6 years old, and I consider them young 😅 I do have breeds which kind of die young, I haven’t had a lot of luck with Orpingtons ( even though I love how they look and are character wise) most of them died young ( around 3 years) but they were usually sick (...
It depends on which breed you have, my Orpintons started making noise when they were 6 months old, my others roosters usually start crowing when they are 8 weeks old 🙄
Sometimes when it is so hot, it is normal for the hen to leave the nest longer ( also, to be on the safe side, check for mites and lice and treat if she does have them) cos it is so hot, it doesn’t harm the eggs when they are left without the hen for some time
I am sooo behind, still got 21 baby chickens ( turned 4 weeks on Wednesday) and a wedding to prepare, peach tree is so full I am afraid the branches are going to snap off, mulberries are ripe and falling 😩 the red currants got picked by friends ( I am not a fan) and the rest went to the...
I remember my first pregnancy, when the nesting instinct kicked in, 2 weeks before my due date, we were renovating the apartment, I was pulling up old carpet, wallpapering and doing all things necessary (wow, did I have a lot of energy back then 😅)
I already took ins some dahlias I don’t have enough space for, then, while picking up the daycare dog, I saw the neighbor was giving away free tomato plants 🙈 yes, I restrained myself and only took 2, then, I had to buy extra pots and potting soil
I also planted some (red) basil and marigolds to...
My peach tree ( 3. season it has born fruit) is so tall ( well, I am no giant 🤪) I can forget about bagging the tiny peaches, it also has so many, it would cost a fortune to bag them all…
My neighbor has a gigantic red mulmerry tree, which grows over to me, the mulberries taste ok, but my white mulberries are so sweet and delicious! In Persia, they sometimes use the dried ones as “sugar cubes” substitute
I bought a 2 year old mulberry bush about 5 years ago, at first, it was tiny, but the last 3 years it exploded 😮 I harvested sweet (!) white mulberries 2023 and hopefully, this year ( last year, the frost killed off everything)
My clematis is flowering 😍 planted the last of the dahlia bulbs in pots 😅 still got 2 raised beds to build, but got held up cos I need to get the run for the 20+ baby chickens ready, they will start hatching monday 😁
First time my bluebell tree is in full bloom ( before, it was too young, last year a late frost killed off all the flowers of all trees , except the pear tree) so beautiful, and it smells amazing too 😍
Finally bought some edible marigolds, (they also smell great and planted them in my raised...
