Sorry to come to the convo late (been busy week and next week will be too) but I buy my feed at Jefferson City MFA 50# Layer's Pellets for less than $9 per bag. I agree, best prices in town at the MFA vs. Tractor Supply or Orschlen's .

I put 9 almost-six-week old chicks outside with no heat about 5 weeks ago (when temperatures were cooler) and they are still doing fine. CG

Why can't these deals show up close to my home? My hatch didn't go well so I bought pullets: one EE (to add to my 3 EE hatchlings of unknown gender), 4 BR, 1 BO, and 2 Production reds. Would have liked to have found some WLs but only other store with chicks doesn't know what they have (and...

I'm in Jefferson City and I do a classroom incubation too. The month before (or after) spring break tends to work well because the school stays cool and they don't get too warm. I did one in May right before school got out and they started hatching too early and die-ing. If you don't find...

Mine molted earlier this fall and it looked like a massacre happened. Hope your's get thru it soon with the cold season coming. At least they'll look good when they are done. Mine have been slowly picking up in the egg laying (hooray) since they molted. CG

I sprinkled cheap salt in my sidewalk area to kill the grass that had to go before we put the sand and bricks down. Hubby usually uses store bought Weed-Be-Gone and my sprinkled salt did a quicker job than that other stuff. The Plantain weed stuff...I remember the other name for it "White...

Sounds like normal chicken dynamics. They have plenty of room to stay out of each others way. When the baby is about 6 weeks old (give or take), Mama Betty will hang out with her old girlfriends more. CG

You guys sound similar to me on the cell phone thing. I have for MY convience in case I have car trouble or because I can't call my kids school on the company phone (and it isn't easy to call out for city calls anyway so I end up calling dentist or doctor on the rare occasion that I need...

I haven't been getting a lot of eggs this summer (blessing in a way). I think it's because a lot of cloudy/rainy days have slowed down the production. I also have a fox that has gotten several of my girls (older ones as well as chicks that can get out of the fence since I've kept them locked...

Jefferson City's Orscheln had Silver Laced Wyndottes this spring. I bought one but it died. I was so hoping to see the pretty feathers. CG

I think I saw something to that effect...was it here? Either that or the MO facebook group I'm on. Swaps are still going on, poultry shows are still going on, but no interstate travel. CG

Our lawnmower blade stopped turning in the middle of a mowing session. Hubby can't figure out why (checked for loose wires, obstructions, etc) and someone else has borrowed our trailer (that's a grrrr story for another time) so we can't get it hauled into a repair shop. Luckily we had another...

I have tarps to try to keep an area dry but I live on a hill and the rain is running down hill and making mud in the run anyway. The only dry spot is in the dust bath wading pool. The rain will eventually stop. CG

The good thing about all this rain is that I haven't had to water my garden or the newly planted trees. However, if it doesn't stop, I may have drowned lettuce and tomatoes. CG

I've had enough rain for a while. I container garden and I've had to pour off water from one pot and cover with a tarp another to try and keep my tomatoes and such from drowning. At least I don't have to drag the hose around. CG
