I am, but I need to develop the lines. Next year I'll breed best daughters to my Bart, and best cockerel to my yearling hens. Bart and the 2 ladies will be 2 next March. The current crop will be yearlings. I have at least 4 lovely cockerels, and 7 pullets. Probably 6 pullets that I can use...

Hi. I got them from Hathor up in the Asheville area. She hasn't updated her blog in a year, so I have no clue what's going on. They are lovely, sturdy, very gentle birds. Very healthy, also.

Hi All! Little bit cooler up here in Wake Forest this week! I have a true Ameraucana rooster that I'd be willing to gift to someone wanting to start a colored egg project. He's about ready for some ladies.... I'm also looking to place a breeding pair of Black Javas with someone in the...

I have 2 week old red Dorkings. Can't keep them all. They are part of a breeding project. Some flaws, but that's the way it is with this breed right now. I think I have 6 or 7.

I'm subscribed. It's not a very active thread at all. I'm somewhat disappointed, but it's not a show stopper.:D

Hi Jt, I'm over in the Wake Forest area and attended the Tour d'Coop in Raleigh. What I found were lots of really nice designs, but nothing set up for a breeding/laying flock. Your mileage may vary over in Durham. If you like, come the end of this month or early June, I would be willing to...

I read a commentary on the Bielefelders in America by someone from Germany who knows the breed there. His comment was that there's no comparison, and the North American birds need a lot of work. I decided to go with Dorkings, still rare but not as hyped by the "imported" branding.

You're just up the street from me! I'm down near Rolesville. I have no Orpingtons, and only one Wyandotte. Boy is she mean to the other girls!

If I wasn't down with a cold, I'd be outside turning my garden over. This is perfect for getting a nice deep trench. When it dries out a little it'll be perfect for planting in a month or so. The deeper dug in the garden the more moisture retention for summer time! :D

They are solid black. Feathers, skin, meat, bones, everything. They are the most interesting looking creatures, and I've read that the meat is quite the delicacy. Most likely because it's black. Oh! I can feel my nose lifting up into the snooty position just talking about it!

Our local middle man hatchery gets between $5-$7 per day old. Svart Hona. I'd love a pair of those to strut around the yard! I'm doing some day olds from Whitmore Farm and plan to hatch my own eggs going forward.

LOL! I got the cheapest! 50 lb bag for like $15. I'll be broadcast spreading some in my pen for the chickens to scratch around on and eat as well. I think I want to ferment some wheat as well, or barley.

Good morning, all! Looks like a cold sky outside my door, but the chookies don't mind. :) We're finishing the chicken wire on the top of the pen, and then my DH gets a much needed rest from my chicken renovations. He's a good man! Time to get out the paper and plan the garden and grow out...
