My hens choice eggs didn't disappoint and I had 9/10 make it to lockdown and 7/9 hatch, including one that has been under Pipsqueak! I ended up with 6 white chicks and 1 black. I did give Pipsqueak a second chick and she's been an amazing mother so far and both chicks are lively and happy. I'm...
The world's angriest cotton ball has figured out she should go back to her nest after eating breakfast so I gave her back an egg I collected a few days ago so we'll see if she manages to hatch it or not. She is quite a fierce little thing given that she weighs less then a large soda can.
She's been sitting on at least one egg all day and is still there after everyone else has roosted for the night so it looks like she's finally figured it out! She growled something fierce when I opened the box to check for eggs thinking she was roosted with everyone else.
I found her roosting with everyone else at bed time so it looks like it didn't quite stick, I brought the eggs in and put one of the ceramic training eggs in their place, if she decides to go full out broody she can have the eggs back but I'd rather not have any freeze so unless she proves she's...
I will! I want broodiness in my birds (for now at least lol) so it's a trait I want to encourage, and they've been laying in the little box my mom made me build for cold nights to lock them all in so they won't freeze which has a door so I can keep her separated from the others if needed. Just...
Pipsqueak has decided I'm taking too long and she's going to hatch these eggs herself and lord help any human or cockerel who tries to take them from her because they will be screamed at by the worlds angriest little broody.
I officially have a second pullet laying! I think the dark days and lack of light are what took her so long but Pipsqueak has been keeping us in eggs with an average of 5-6 a week, and with Derby laying now we're averaging 7-9 (Derby just started a few weeks ago so her body is still figuring...
Welcome to the thread! The Facebook group has been a bit quiet lately but with such a small group it tends to come and go a bit. Those birds are adorable, are they Quail or Blue Quail?
I was really hoping to have the birds ready for the Northeastern Poultry Congress in January but I'm just not sure I'm going to have them prepared condition wise, plus the combs aren't quite where I want them on most of the birds. We do need a certain number showing to get APA acceptance but I...
I'm no expert but it looks to me like she has a beard but no muffs, the muffs being the cheek parts and the beard being under the beak. I could be wrong though! Hopefully someone with a bit more experience will chime in.
