    Preserving Your Harvest

Over the last week or so I have blanched and frozen 6 qts of green peas. Just starting to pick blueberries. I am freezing them as I pick. DH asked me how many I ate while picking? I'll never tell! :plbb

Thanks. I've seen that one somewhere online too. Appreciate you and @Sally PB reviews. I value real people reviews so much more than online.

Yes cleaning is very important. I try to be careful of that with everything I preserve by any method. Mom and her sister were nurses. I used to work for a physical therapist in wound care also. I suppose this made me very picky about clean. I don't want it to take excessive effort to clean it...

    Preserving Your Harvest

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. You need a helper. I had to plant one year with my hand damaged by a brown recluse spider bite. Big bandage and painful. I am a bit hard headed though. I got it done but slowly. Hope your hand heals quickly.

Thanks for the tips! I've just started to look at some online. Came across the Excaliber, looks nice. I'll look at it closer. I hope to read up, get one in hand to play with a bit and be ready to go for spring. Just getting my fall greens and stuff growing so gardening will slow down for me...

Not a bad price as freeze dryers go. We've had a couple large unexpected expenses this year. Just paid HO insurance and about to pay property taxes. Seems it's always something. Think I can swing a dehydrator though. That will give me some experience with another storage method. Then see how...

    Preserving Your Harvest

Thanks for the info! I roasted some in the oven last year. Some plain, some with some garlic and seasonings. I froze them and used them in pasta, meatloaf, used some like bruschetta. So good they didn't last long. I've always canned and frozen veggies. Looking into a dehydrator for use...

    Preserving Your Harvest

I've never seen it written any where. Wondering is it something that was passed along from back when lots of folks water bathed everything? That's all I could think of?

My Mom always told me any veggies home canned should be brought to a boil before eating so I do. I don't think I've ever read it anywhere. Interesting you found reference to this. You can heat to a boil in the microwave as long as you use a dish safe for this. I would stir half way through...

Heat has been slowing me down. I have too many projects going on at one time. I do what I can! When will you get your first frost? Most pumpkin varieties take around 100 days or more. I just harvested some pie pumpkins yesterday. 🎃 Only had a couple plants and happy with the 14 small...

I usually plant cabbage, broccoli, collards, mustard greens, green onion. I may also plant garlic, lettuce and carrots. When the weather cools down some I need to work on my strawberry beds. One has tons of runners and the other is so weedy and needs straw added. Will you have a fall garden?

    Preserving Your Harvest

I've been saving tomato, pepper, butterbeans, green beans, cantaloupe, watermelon and pumpkin seeds. I'm kind of a seed hoarder. Yep, boxes! I usually do some flower seeds too. I haven't made any salsa yet this year. I've got probably 1-2 more batches of stewed then I may make some. I...

I've grown these too. I like Brandywine. It's large and tasty to me but too stingy for the disease it gets. Takes too much attention for what it gives. I found the others ok but nothing special. Last few years DH and I really love Black Krim. I start 1-2 extra early so these are usually the...

    Preserving Your Harvest

It's actually happened more than once! Tomatoes and yellow squash. I'm going back to ordering from companies I've used in the past or saving my own. I have one mom and pop hardware in town that still sells bulk seed by the scoop (1/4 c or 1/2 c). They are great but limited variety. I think...
