Excellent! I have one I use when I'm driving my truck. Bread is done and smelling good. Needs to cool down for an hour or so, then I'll cook that steak. I need to quit eating so much and shrink my body back down. But it tastes so good!

Well, I changed my mind. I cleaned up the garlic, bundled it and hung it on the back porch to finish drying. Even if it's kind of messy I can still admire it more often back there. LOL Got a loaf of French bread going in the bread machine now. Thanks for cabbage compliment Penny Jo. Maybe it's...

Yep, the head of cabbage was pretty loosely formed. I like those compact heads that feel like a heavy rock. Maybe I grew the wrong variety. Maybe I should've watered it more regularly. Anyway I'm sure it'll still taste like cabbage. I'm cooking half of it, eating the other half raw. I decided...

I think they'd be fine in the ground for another week. Are the tops still a little green?

Haha! Beat you! I have 59. I planted 60 but ate one a couple weeks ago. You could tie them together and hang them up to dry.

Bolting cabbage???? The biggest one is close to the size of a soccer ball now. They don't seem to be the tight, heavy kind of cabbage heads, but kind of loose and lightweight. I'll know for sure tomorrow when I pick it. I might be eating a few beets soon. At least one seems to be about 3...

    Frozen peas are the best.

I'll be eating fresh cabbage soon. Looks like one of the heads in the garden is starting to split open like they do before bolting. Think I'll cut it tomorrow morning.

I've never been a Costco member and never cared much for Winco. I pretty much buy only what's on sale at Freddie's and stock up, and a few things at Walmart. I'll start exploring Grocery Outlet more often now. There's one near the Chehalis Walmart. I splurged today and got a double cheeseburger...

I need to check it out more often. I guess it's a place that's better for finding random deals rather than filling a specific grocery list. But I WAS specifically looking for tomato sauce today, and yes, I checked the Fredmeyer tomato sauce price online before I went shopping, so I knew. LOL

I just got back from a roadtrip to the Longview FredMeyer to stock up on deals, including some ribeye steaks. There's a limit of 2 family packs of the steaks, and they've gotten sneaky lately. Family packs used to have 3 steaks, now a family pack has just two. Four big steaks is enough I guess...

I sure will. Part of me is ready to let them go right now, but I also am wondering if it would be good to have the old hens around when the young cockerels start feeling their hormones. Would the old hens keep the cockerels in line and teach them some manners???

I finally got a little of the drip irrigation stuff I bought last year set up in one of my raised beds. I have 6 tomatoes, 5 zucchinis and my row of pickling cucumbers set up with emitters. I'll get the new garden bed that has the peppers, tomatoes and beans set up next. I'll probably measure...

Sorry you lost your hen. Maybe you could buy a few apples and freeze them for when it gets too hot.

Just got pics of this year's fawn, eating cherries in the neighbor's yard with mama.

When it's really hot outside I've given my chicken frozen treats in the afternoon. I have some chopped, blanched kale stems in the freezer right now for a worst case scenario. But the way my runs are set up they can burrow down into the dirt and cool themselves off pretty well. Giving them...

My chickens are in the shade all day, under a metal roof on the north side of my shop. I don't do anything to cool them down. When it gets in the upper 90s they hold their wings out a little to stay cool, but they manage it ok.

I got one questionable egg yesterday that was cracked but not leaking. I cooked it and mixed it with wet feed and gave it to the young chicks. They loved it. I gave the rest of the flock eggshells mixed with dry feed and a container of plain feed wetted down. They still look out the window...
