California - Northern

Sorry you broke your humerus. Hope you are healing well and fast.
Both my coops are under shaded trees. I am thinking abt putting a shade cloth over the rest of the run to keep the area cool. If it's not a dog, my husband doesn't care. He doesn't know anything ant chickens but often find himself giving advice on how to deal with my chicken eventhough my mom raised chickens all her life and I grew up around chickens. I find it amusing since his advice do not translate to chickenese 😁😁😁😁 But he built the coop, I can't be too rough on him.

I bought the small one from TSC and he built the big one.

Since this pic was taken, he changed the roost bars to 2×4 and cut the back of the coop added chicken wires to create more ventilation.
Oh, he made such a nice setup for your yard!:thumbsup

My mom taught me to not say anything when DH gives advice or doesn't do a job to my liking -- compliment him instead. DH's like to be appreciated and eventually find themselves enjoying chickens! My DH never lived on a farm like me but he learned on his own what to do for our chickens, he knows when they are ready to lay an egg, when they are broody, when they look cold or hot, when they want him to escort them to the coop at night, and one loves him so much she jumps to sit on his lap. She won't sit on me!

We gave away our 1st small feed store coop and now I wish I kept it. It wasn't made out of quality materials but it was a good design for Silkies. If we marine painted it and replaced chicken wire with sturdier hardware wire it would've been ideal but we had so many remodel projects to do on the property! I had to retire before we could even have time for chickens.

What that just the run or the whole coop
I haven't seen one like that before.

Thank you.
He really did a good job. Sometimes I wish he could see things the way I see things. He likes working on projects that make no sense down the line.

The coop was custom-built by a feed store customer who show-cased it in the store. We bought it immediately & the feed store delivered it and placed it on the spot for us. It was much larger and heavier than the flimsy put-it-together yourself pet store coops.

It is one-of-a-kind custom-built coop/run combo with 3 very large round-hole nestboxes that fit 2 to 3 sleeping Silkies together or one large hen in each box. Behind the coop the whole backside on hinges opened to access the nestboxes. There was a shelf landing in front of the nestboxes. The whole bottom even under the big nestboxes was all run space to lock up the chickens when we weren't home to watch them free ranging.

Now I am scared for my chickens. They are only abt 3 month old, so not laying anytime soon. However, I work and my husband don't care abt chickens really. So they could be dying and he won't even know. So I'll have to put a plan in place for the upcoming hot days. For now the coops are placed in a shaded area and they can hide under the coop, it's really cool. I am probably gonna have to separate an area in the garage for them for when it gets too hot.
If you have a small space, this works!

You can use a hose timer to have it turned on using a schedule or if you are home on hot days, turn it on for them. Other systems cost more and need to be strung up around the run.

These were the very exact Orbit misters we got -- 3 of them and everyone clogged up -- we bought new nozzles and still they clogged up from our hard minerals Calif outdoor tap water. When the nozzles got clogged the couplers leaked and flooded the yard. I mean, go ahead and use them if they work for you but our water is so harsh here we had to put in a LifeSource purifying system for the whole house to save our new plumbing installation!

I have a an rv filter on my hose line: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081N7NY12/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

By the time all the fuss we went thru trying to get Orbit misters to work, replacing a hose and nozzles, we nixxed the small filter route -- our water is too hard for smaller filters. We had one installed under our kitchen sink designed to be good for a year was corroded in 3 months. -- just made it easier & cheaper on us to run a circular sprinkler $8 on low and the girls have fun wading in the water pools. 4 yrs later the sprinkler still works fine but the misters were a waste of time & $$$ for us.
