I was looking at ordering a few little leg bands to put on my peachicks to tell them apart a little easier, but I'm not sure what size would be appropriate. They're about a week old right now. I know I could order the wing clips, but I'm pretty sure those go through their skin, and I am not comfortable doing that.

This chart from Cutler Supply may help you. It does not talk about pea chicks specifically but may give you some ideas. Since they are growing, you would have to constantly change them anyway. Have you considered using zip ties while they are growing? Either way you still have to change them as they grow.

We use wing bands and also colored zip ties on our greens, if you put the zip ties on loose you may not have to replace them for 6 months then after that you may not have to replace at all, we use side cutters to cut them off.

I just got some springy, spiral, colored leg bands in size 6, 9, and 12 from cutler supply. The size 6 seems to fit them ok, if a little big. The second one told us he was DYING with the leg band on, he kept taking a really huge step with that leg like a cat with a piece of tape on its paw. It's over it now and they don't notice at all. Thanks for the advice!

@Kedreeva , you said the size 6 was a little big? Which sizes did you end up using as they grew? I was considering the zip ties, but would rather something that might be more likely to come off if they got snagged on something, like the colored spring leg bands. Would rather replace a band than lose a leg or foot. Highly unlikely in their brooder but, I have a feeling anything could be possible. I'll only have six little chicks, so think the multi-colors would be easier than metal bands with numbers etched in.

Hey! I used at least the 6 and 9 but they outgrew both. I can't remeber if I used the 12 size or not but by the time they were that big it was so easy to tell them apart I didn't bother. I think if you only have a couple you'll find the same to be true!
