My Coop
My Coop
My DH and I took off three days of work and just finished up the coops and run for our 4 chickens and 4 ducks. Thought everyone might like to see for ideas:

This is the coop built out of two rabbit hutches - modified of course. The end has another ramp, but we've made that into the nesting box and I will use the door as my egg access.

Next we built a kennel "inner run". The dog house is the duck house. The kennel will be used during the day when we are at work as well as overnight for the ducks. We'll open it up to the "outer run" after work and on weekends.

Using a rain barrel for easy access to water near the coop.

We added cattle panel with hardware cloth for the "outer run" We also topped the whole outer run with deer cloth to protect us from the worst predator in our area - Hawks & Eagles.

We used a piece of cattle panel (cut using bolt cutters) for the outer gate and I came up with an ingenious way to attach it (with a spring!):

Dug and created a pond for the ducks -

Here is the finished product! :) I'm very proud of our accomplishments.

Looks like ya'll did a great job with the build.

Very nice looking run. Gave me some ideas! Did you place a barrier around the outer perimeter to stop any digging predators from going under?

Looks nice! I also am using the rain barrel for mine. Works pretty well so far. I've got pvc pipe and nipple waterers in the pipe coming from my barrel.

Very cool!
The two of you did a lot of work in just 4 days. You should be proud of yourselves.

Could you give some details on your pond..
I've been hinting to my wife that I would like ducks and I know the pond would be the biggest undertaking.

No, we didn't. We really don't have anything around here except for the hawks and eagles. I've seen one raccoon in town the 20+ years I've been here. We also have two dogs, so I'm not really too concerned with that. They'll smell the dogs and run. LOL

The pond was created with a $50 (on sale) stock tank - http://www.orschelnfarmhome.com/60-gal-poly-tuf-stock-tank/ctl16754/cp58377/si5182872/cl1/
Took my DH and son about 1/2 an hour to dig it out. We just buried it and added brick and pebbles to the outside (about 20 bucks worth) to keep the mud from being directly dragged in. We also bought a pond pump and filter (about 40 bucks from home depot) - and of course my hubby wanted the frog spitter (20 bucks) (not required.. LOL).

You did get a lot done in a short time. It looks great. I was also very interested in your duck pool because I've wanted ducks longer than I've wanted chickens!
