Hi all, candelled my 16 duck eggs today only to find that two ar sacs are at the wrong end of the egg?! Both had th duckli embryo clearly moving inside (we're on day 16) but I guess what I'm inquiring is are they going to have a problem hatching?

Also my air sacs are not very big, they've grown in size slightly but for 16 days in should they be quite big by now? I'm very confused by this weigh loss business and don't really understand enough to fiddle with the humidity (temp is 37.5, humidity has strayed between 43% and 46% most days as incy is in a classroom and the temp doesn't stay regular inside the room...

any help or advice gratefully received

Hannah :)

I don't incubate in bators so I can't help you but I think if you posted here you would get some answers faster.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/594278/thread-formerly-known-as-hatch-day-is-today/38170

Sorry I see you already found this thread.

You need to raise the humidity. 43% is not high enough..it should be more like 60% up until the last 3 days when you need to raise it to 73% to 75%. If you continue you're probably going to lose most of them..some may hatch. I'm not sure why the air sac is at the wrong end, thats never happened to me, but the could still hatch if you can get the air sac large enough. If the humidity isn't high enough the chic won't be able to get out of the egg..or they'll be "shrink wrapped"

Oh right, the instructions just said 45% until lock down then raise it up, didn't know it had to be higher towards the end too, hatch date is due to be a week on Tuesday, will it be enough time do you think?

it can't hurt..just up the humidity and see what happens..try to keep the incubator closed as much as possible..mist them or put a wet sponge in there that should help.

Personally I would poke a small hole in the egg shell after it had internally piped, that way it would not suffocate. I did this on my last hatch. All the ones I poked a hole in made it out of the egg on their own.
