We've incidentally adopted a very sick bird with numerous problems, so we are treating her with several means currently. I need to know if these things are okay for her to take together. Can you put a bird on both Acidified Copper Sulfate AND have her on antibiotics too?
-One does of Ivermectin...
I have five broiler chicks and they are eleven days old. I have been raising them in a 10x10 pen outside, with a heat lamp in one corner. Before I used it for the chicks, it just sat there open so my other chickens have gone in and out as they please. The reason I mention this is to say that the...
I am copying and pasting this post I made in the raising baby chicks forum because I thought this might be a better place for it. Mods can let me know if this isn't allowed, I'm new here!

Hello! My partner and I are raising a flock for the first time. We have 4 Buff Orpingtons and 3 silver laced Wyandottes. They are 2 weeks old as of yesterday and from everything we can tell, they seem to be thriving! I have a couple of (hopefully quick) questions about their feed and water...
Can’t chew gum and walk at the same time I guess!——this morning filling up the girls’ water jug I wanted to add a jigger of ACV. Topping off my coffee, mind in lahlah land… I accidentally poured the vinegar into my coffee and grabbed the spoon of sugar to pour in the water jug! Grief sakes...
Is apple cider vinegar good for baby chicks? Someone from the hatchery said to use it diluted in their water when I get my chicks? Is it beneficial? Immune boost? I got the the ACV “with the mother” which is raw. I’m just using this and medicated feed. Do I need more supplements to add?
Every once in a while I add some vinegar to their water, but that's nit the main topic. I use a chrome bowl as their waterer, but I've read before that apple cider vinegar rusts metal. Though, my bowl is chrome, not metal. My question is if it'll still rust the metal.
We had our first experience with coccidiosis in our chickens a few days ago. I noticed that some of them were pooping blood, and I found an article about coccidiosis. The environment and symptoms described our situation, and I figured that was most likely what it was. We started giving them...
Hey guys! I'm new to the Backyard Chickens site, and fairly new to chicken keeping - i've been doing it for 2 years now. Today while cleaning my flock's coop, I noticed that one of my chickens (a 2 year old hen) was not being herself - lethargic, hunched over, not eating and barely moving. I...
Hi all, I'm making fire tonic for my family and was curious if it would be good for my hens. Ingredients are onions, garlic, ginger root, horseradish root, Turmeric root. Hot peppers (habenero, Serrano, & fresno) and Apple cider vinegar. After it sits in a half gallon mason jar for 2 weeks you...
Hi, I have a week old chick. The chick has pasty butt and every time I wash its vent off it becomes clogged again. I've heard that apple cider vinegar helps with this, but you're supposed to put it in the chicks water and I already have Corid in my chicks water. Is it ok to have both Corid and...

.... I don't get the ACV thing. I see where a lot of folks add Apple Cider Vinegar to their chickens' water, at least on occasion, for various health reasons. Here's why I'm puzzled. My kids and I have done experiments where we put eggs in tumblers containing water and ACV in various solutions...
Hi guys! It's finally happening! My 5 Sebright chicks will arrive in the mail on Thursday if all goes well. Additionally, I'm getting some day old chicks from someone local at the same time - 2 silkies and 1 Mille Fleur d’Uccle. So a total of 8 little chickies. I'm so very excited!
I have all...
Hello everyone, I can’t seem to find when to quit giving this for my new flock? Tonight is the second night of no pasty butt and they are 8 days old. :celebrateI’m wondering if I can quit giving it now? Lady at the TSC also told me to supplement with grit after transport just to help. So if...
Both of these chicks vents were being pecked on by my other chicks when I was at school, by the time I got home they were both bleeding, one worse than the other. The worse one or the white chick in the images below a vent began swelling. Both chicks released vent fleet and these are they're...
I water my six pullets in a 2 quart rubber bowl. I freshen with clean water daily. How much Apple cider vinegar should I be adding to their water and how often? Thanks!
i noticed a few of my chickens have started to make a congested coughing sound. i was told if you squirt apple cider vinegar down their thought it will kill what ever it is making them sick. does any one know what this cough might be or if the apple cider will help. i don't want to put them...
I know there has been so many threads/articles about de-worming chickens, but I haven't found a concrete answer yet. I have a OEG Roo that is approx 5 1/2 months old and within the last couple of days, I noticed that his comb is getting paler by the day and he's off by himself a lot. He seems to...
