    NH New Member!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’ve got one year under my belt raising my girls! (2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have six hens and two ducklings and are expecting 3-4 more chicks in a month! (3) What breeds do you have? Barred Plymouth...

Cold AND Heat Hardy Breed Recommendations

Hi folks! Long time lurker, first time poster. I am looking to raise a small flock (6 ladies) from chicks this spring. I know this is a little early, but why go Christmas shopping when you can go chicken shopping instead? I am new to my area (Reno, Nevada, US), but we have a mix of very cold...

Age old question, barred rock pullet or cockerel?

Hi everyone! This is Bagels, she is from a repeatable hatchery and should be a she…but I am concerned due to her patterning she is looking more like a He! 4 weeks old…too early to tell? She got her tail feathers VERY early but I don’t have any other BR’s to compare her too! THANK YOU! ☺️ I love...

What breed is this? (Was told she would be a barred Plymouth Rock when she was a chick)

Update: SHE IS AN OLIVE EGGER LOL. Thank you for your help guys :) Hello!!! I have a little gal and I have NO idea what she is supposed to be. I was told one thing and she seems to be another. She has a funny little hairdo and quite the personality.

5 Week Old Barred Rock Cockerel

Just wanted to share some pics of this guy. I think he is going to be beautiful. Has anyone seen wattles/comb this big on a 4-5 week old?

    This is a boy, isn’t he? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I hatched 3 chicks and I am watching this one (named Hope, possibly switching to Howard) 4weeks old tomorrow…painted front legs but the waddle at the top looks a bit red….thoughts?

    Barred Rock...ish

Just had to share the funny little anomaly that is Owl, our little Barred Plymouth Rock girl. When she was a chick, she had just a bit of fluff on both her legs that went away fairly quickly. But now, at 8 weeks, she has grown two little feathers on only one foot. It is the funniest looking...

Looking for photos of show quality RIRs and BR for BYC article...

I'm working on an article about poultry quality. Would anybody be willing to let me use theirs? You will get credit, of course. I'm specifically looking for a photo showing the side profile of a Rhode Island Red, emphasizing the brick-like body shape and color. Another photo showing the correct...

Barred Plymouth Rock rooster/cockerel with BROWN feathers?

He’s between 18-20 weeks and is going through a big molt. This molt is bringing in both really pretty brown feathers as well as feathers that flip backwards. Is this standard? Is there such thing as a mixed chicken breed? (I’m obviously new.) I’ll attach photos.

5 week old chicks; help identifying sex please?

Hello fellow backyard chicken keepers! I have my first flock, just about 5 weeks old (the Easter Egger is a week older). I got the chicks from a homestead that claimed they were all pullets, but I suspect that I have one, possibly two (or more??) cockerels amongst my six chicks. I would love to...

    Pullet vs Cockerel

My gut/pics are telling me cockerel but for the sake of my family loving this one I’m hoping it’s a she! No other barreds to compare in our flock. 4-5 weeks with one of my 5-6 week buffys and an australorp 4-5 weeks. Waddles developing, comb VERY pale pink 3-4 weeks old
