Hi all :hmm This group has always been so kind and supportive to me. I don’t have anyone to talk to and no one around me would understand my pain.
To start off, I’m a beginner chicken keeper and I’ve only hatched three clutches of eggs, so I’m definitely still learning.
My second clutch...
Is this a Black Copper Maran? I have never owned the breed. I got this gal from a friend. I thought she told me she was a BCM as a chick, but now I am unsure. She also cannot remember whether this is a BCM or a mix (she owns and sells a lot of chickens, so I understand the forgetfulness). She is...
Hi all! I would love your input to see which rooster I should keep for breeding. The breeder I purchased from bred for egg color more than SOP but I would love to start breeding for both. Thanks!
My Black Copper Maran is about 1.5 years old. The last few days I’ve noticed her comb is really flopping over and it appears as though the colored part of her eyes is getting dark splotches. Any ideas what would cause this? Recently sprayed elector psp, coop and run are clean and has access to...
This BCM is 17 weeks and 5 days old. It hasn't started crowing yet, so I can't tell by that. I've seen some pictures of BCM hens online with fairly large wattles and combs, and by this age, the BCM cockerels I've seen online seem to have much more prominent rooster features. But, I'm just...
I just brought home 26 hatchlings! I am over the moon happy. I paid a lady to incubate them and she rocked it out of the park.
My rooster is a paint ameraucana EE with autosomal red + lavender split. Hens are BYC unless listed below.
11 of the chicks are paints - 6 are black spotted, the other...
I have various chicken, duck, Guinea and Turkey hatching eggs in central Mississippi.
Chicken breeds are: Eastereggers, olive eggers, Ameraucana, French Black Copper Marans, Zombie, Ayam Cemani

I am new to chickens, and I recently received 2 Black Copper Marans as day old chicks. Around 5 weeks, I started to see a difference in one of my BCMs. S/he started to sprout a little pink comb and wattles, so I figured I must have a roo. Now at 9 weeks, I am back to think s/he might be a pullet...
Of course she/he is my favorite. I'm new to chickens and have 3 BCM. This one is the only one with copper on its neck. No other copper on wings or tail. 12 weeks old. Hoping it's a hen so I can keep it. 😭 Any insights into sex?
Hey there! Currently we only have two hens, one RIR from McMurray that we raised ourselves and is almostttt 15 weeks I believe (shipped out week of June 3rd and I believe we got them that Thursday), and one that we were told was a 1.5 year old maran (I didn’t ask which kind and we’re newbies to...
Hey guys! New to chickens and wondering what you all think this guy is. The only info I have:
• the woman we got him from said he was supposed to be a black copper maran pullet but now she doesn’t know what HE is (he’s definitely crowing I know that at least 😂)
• purchased from a local feed...
Hello everyone! So as the title says, we have a BCM chick that has white where the copper color should be. It's also missing the leg feathers that our other BCM have. What happened with this chick?
Our BCM come from two separate lines. One line consists of a single hen with dark copper color...
im having trouble telling the gender of my two bym bcm also if anyone can help, funny thing is when they were younger i thought the bigger one was the rooster and the smaller one was the hen, but now i think its the other way around because the smaller sounds like it crows now
Just wanted to share some of my recent hatches. Most of these are all silkie mixes but are thankfully growing more like full sized chicks. My favorite is the prairie bluebell egger that is starting to frizzle. Can’t wait to see how they all grow!! The BCM silkie mix has huge feathers on its feet.
Hey all. I have some five week old purebred BCM chicks. I’m 90% sure about 90% of the chicks lol except this one. Comb is slightly darker pink than the other pullets but wattles are pink/red. Size is similar to the other pullets in the group. I’m thinking late blooming cockerel? Any thoughts?
I have three baby black coppet marans, born May 20 (so I know it's early). I'm leaning toward #3 being a boy. I know the obvious male copper spots on the shoulders when I see them but is there anything else I can look for?
