This new flock is giving me a run for my money. The flock is twitching their heads, occasionally sneezing and scratching their heads.
I separated two because they were showing signs before any of the others. Well now I look and it seems like around their ears are swollen and missing feathers...
UPDATE: I ORDERED TYLOSIN FROM JEDDS THAT WILL BE HERE BY THE 29th. WISH MY FLOCK LUCK. 🤞🏼
I posted yesterday about my 5 - 6 week old chicks twitching their heads. I was holding two today and they both sneezed where clear mucus sprayed out a bit on my arm. I put vetrx, nutri drench, and poultry...
My 5-6 week old black australorp started twitching a week ago. This one is the first one that started twitching and occasionally sneezing. Despite separating them, the whole flock is now. They’ll even twitch while asleep or resting.
Treating with - vetrx, nutri drench, and poultry cell in...
Which color Ameraucana parents would produce 50% Silver - 25% Black - 25% Splash? Would ANY pairing be able to produce this percentage of these colors?
I purchased a dozen hatching eggs from someone who appears to be at least an honest seller. She has very good feedback, but that probability...
I have 4 chickens - 2 black australorps and 2 rhode island reds. All were about a week old when we got them on june 22nd.
In that time, we had a big move to an area 2 and half hours northeast of where we were in Pennsylvania. We had sprung backwards due to daylight savings where we start to...
I need find a new home for my 1-year-old Black Australorp rooster. He's very good at taking care of his hens. He is great at finding them food and protecting them. The only reason I have to rehome him is I need to downsize my flock due to chronic shoulder/feet problems making it difficult for me...
Hi everyone!
I need find a new home for my 1-year-old Black Australorp rooster. He is hand raised and used to being handled if needed. He's very good at protecting his girls. I've had great success with him. The only reason I have to rehome him is I need to downsize my flock due to chronic...
Hello everyone! We just had three chicks hatch in our broody-hen pen, and I was wondering if anyone knew what these little guys are! (I know NOTHING of chicken genetics.)
We have one lone rooster so it’s no question who the father is, but we have three different mother possibilities. We have...
Hi everyone!
I need find a new home for my 1-year-old Black Australorp rooster. He's hand raised and good at taking care of his girls. I won't have enough space or hens for him to keep him happy as I need to downsize my flock due to chronic shoulder/feet problems making it impossible to care...
Blackberry my broodie just hatched two happy, healthy, silkie chicks! I came to gather eggs at 6:45 pm, to make some muffins with my mom 🥰 I came over and saw a raccoon, I counted all my chickens, and luckily everyone was there 😅 I went into the coop and found one egg. We needed two. My mom told...
I have five 29-week old Black Australorp hens and still no sign of an egg from any of them! They have been on layers pellets since 23 weeks and appear happy and healthy. I am starting to wonder if the breeder wasn't honest about heir date of birth, but I don't know how to age them. Here is a...
Hey Everyone! I've been researching sexing Black Australorps and I'm at all loss here, so I'm hoping someone might have experience with this breed and help me out :)
We added to our flock this year and I was so excited to find Black Australorps at our local feed store. They were supposed to be...
Hello!
I’ve had these chicks since beginning of March. The feed store said they were a mix. RIR and Black Australorps. Now I have 9 of them…I’m guessing 2 BAs are Roos and 3 maybe 4 RIRs are Roos. The BAs have bigger combs than the other two and much stockier and thicker legs with bigger feet...
I was "sure" that by the time we incubated fresh eggs that the old rooster DNA should be GONE from the hens' oviducts... Well, now that they've hatched, I'm questioning if that's the case. LOL
Here are some pics of our hatched chicks. Please help me figure out if the dad was a Black Australorp...
Hi everyone!
Due to a chronic shoulder problem I'm having to downsize my flock and find a new home for my 10-month-old Black Australorp rooster. I wish I could keep him but I'm not going to have enough space or hens for him anymore. Please let me know if you'd be interested in taking him!
Hello BYC, thought I'd finally drop in and say "hello".
1. Yes, I'm new to raising chickens (got our first flock members in March of 2022), but old to raising chickens since my family & I did when I was a kid like 20 years ago.
2. We (husband & I) have 20 chickens right now. 2 roosters & 18...

Hi all-
My black australourp has a ton of bumps/bites on his comb/wattles. I thought it could be mosquito bites being that I live on a bayou, but if that were the case why don’t any of my other hens & Roos in the flock have them?
Is this something to be concerned with or is it just mosquitoes...
A lot of people were hating on other breeders that cross their chickens with other breed. Here is my opinion:
As long as you are treating your chickens right (by providing their basic necessities) and breeding to create chickens with distinct characteristics like for more meat, eggs, color...
