Helloo, my flock was just having a dust bath and I was sitting around nearby and I hear a purring sound, I set out to investigate and find it was my rooster and later he was again doing it in the nesting box.
Anyone know what this noise means?
Thank you!!
My chick is about 19 weeks. She’s been making this noise for the past few days. We’ve recently had another chick unexpectedly pass away and she was making the same noise, is there something wrong?
Every experienced chicken owner knows that their birds have a large (and sometimes funny!) vocabulary that allows them to communicate with the flock. From a cock-a-doodle-do to the squawk of a broody hen, chickens always seem to have the right word to describe what they are feeling.

I can speak some chicken, but I do not know what this means. What does it sound like she is saying here? I thought it was "I want to lay an egg" but she makes this sound in the evening sometimes too.

They are all about 9 weeks old now - 2 silkies and a barred rock.
Any thoughts as to why she...

Okay, so the first thing I've noticed/questions is some missing feathers on only one hen's lower neck/upper breast region...
