Hey guys, my first time incubating isn’t going well.
I have a duck egg that was meant to hatch 4 days ago but didn’t. When candled there’s been no movement for 3 of those days.
So, I decided to open the egg thinking it was dead.
The internal membrane where the veins are is still intact.. veins...
Went to grab eggs tonight and found this cracked egg. Obviously it isn’t cracked all the way but I’m on edge a bit because i know that when an egg cracks inside a chicken it isn’t a good sign… I wanted to know if you think my girl who laid this will be okay and what can I give them to prevent...
I just put 15 button quail eggs in the incubator today.I was marking X’s and O’s on the side and the pencil poked into one of the eggs. The membrane has a small hole and the shell is cracked a little.I cleaned it with a wet paper towel and put a piece of a waterproof band aid on it.What are the...
I was candling for internal pips in a Turkey egg on day 27, then the egg slipped out of my hand and fell 4 inches onto my desk. At first I thought it was ok and then I felt these cracks on the pointy end, membrane is fine, but the chick hadn’t pipped internally yet.
It’s still showing movement...
Hello :)
I have four hens (pharaoh coturnix) who I believe are all laying regularly now. I've noticed dramatic differences in egg colouration and texture - the ones with an almost solid brown covering are a bit rougher and less shiny that the speckled eggs. I have been assuming this is just...
Since 2008 we've been webcasting our annual spring chicken egg hatch, called Chickam. While every year seems to have some kind of dumb drama with the hatch, this year was a whopper.
The big one was due to an accident with the incubator racks, all of the eggs and equipment took a very bad fall on...
I have a hen sitting on 10 eggs and i noticed yesterday that one of the eggs was cracked but the inner liner of the egg was still intacked. I know that the egg was fertile i did a candling a couple days before and you could very plainly see a moving baby in there. Should i discard this egg or is...
Hello all, I went into the run today to give out the daily dose of love and cuddles and noticed my 1yr old EE kinda fluffy and quiet off to the side. I felt her crop and all was normal, but she does have messy/dirt butt feathers. My question is, would this be vent gleet or a possible case of...
My cat knocked the incubator off the counter this afternoon. Chicks were due to hatch tomorrow or the next day. At least 2 of them are still alive. Their shells are completely broken but the membranes are intact. I have them back in the incubator but I’m not sure if I should just monitor them or...
We've all dealt with cracked eggs and the disappointment that comes when we find one (or two!) in the egg box. But here's the question; what do you do with these cracked eggs?
Personally, I crack the damaged egg(s) into a bowl and feed it back to the girls- they loooove the ooey gooey...
This is first time breeding ducks we got two Muscovy ducks last year and they laid 12 eggs. Four were gotten by puppies before we got the fence fixed but today found one cracked all over and a small tear in the membrane. There is some blood I opened it a little thinking it was dead but it...
Hi everyone! I just had my first duckling hatch! There are 3 other eggs in the incubator, and she was moving all around after hatching and looks to have bumped into and somehow cracked a piece of shell off one of the other eggs that just started to internally pip last night. The crack is on the...
I just received my hatching eggs and one of the last ones I went to set up for the wait to get to room temperature was very difficult to slide out of the foam. I felt something like it cracked just a bit so I double checked what I could see and there was a crack going down the side of the egg. I...
Hi all- first post here - I’m worried about my cuckoo Maran - she has extended growths on her legs where the spurs are (about 1:4 inch long) and for the last few weeks her eggs have been shaped very oblong - and they are cracked for two lays now. The shell is sturdy otherwise. Once or twice...
This is the 2nd time we have had this hens egg laid with a crack that looks like it was sealed over before she laid it. Just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about or if I should supplement her with anything? They have free feed oyster shell available all the time. Any...
I have 6 hybrids, all laying. 1 hen (don’t know which) keeps laying her eggs out of the nest box near the door. So I’m the morning everyone goes running out and end up stepping all over her egg. Once it’s cracked they then eat it. How do I get her to lay in the nest box?
I also have another hen...
So here’s my story, I was checking on my chickens and the broody ones hoping for the chicks to have been hatched and I open up the door and the chicken freaks out the two eggs fall out, both cracked. One wasn’t fertile while the other was. The fertile one has a hole in it as big as fingernail...
My chickens abandoned this egg and I've been raising it via heating pad. Yesterday it has been showing signs of living and hatching , but today I uncovered it and it's been like this. No one has hit or put anything on it. Is it still alive? Is it okay? Will the rest come out soon? It sort of smells.
My bantam Cochin is laying strange eggs. She is just over 1 year old.
Her eggs have been normal until recent weeks. Now she lays a large (for her) egg with blood on it and a weird seam-like crack towards the pointy end. I can feel the crack when I run my fingernail across it.
The shell is not...
