Hello fellow chicken lovers. Can I get some thoughts on the gender of these Brahmas? They are supposed to be female but they certainly don't act like it. I've never had this breed before. I got them as chick's from a breeder who assured me they were ladies. But I have seen at least one of...
All signs pointed to my sweet Pidgeotto being a rooster, but I kept hoping he was just a really big and bold hen. He crowed in my face this morning when I opened the coop :(. 2 out of 3 chicks being male is some bad luck. I know some hens will crow, anyone want to give me some hope?
So I have a hen who recently started crowing, and since we live in a place where roosters are forbidden we really need her to stop (if anyone complains I really doubt "but look, she's a hen! She lays eggs!" is going to cut it).
I've read this can happen when there is no rooster and the hen at...
So right now i have an older polish hen around 5 years old in with a bunch of younger pullets and cocks (the excess cocks already have new homes just waiting for their families to be ready to pick them up). Well this hen was suprisingly pretty welcoming when I introduced the others. As head hen...
Meet beautiful Yetta, our Blue-laced Red Wyandotte. She was a bonus chick in our first spring brood. She's about 21 weeks now...and she started crowing two weeks ago. And we are not allowed to have roosters in our town (the law says roosters, not crowing fowl, fortunately).
Now, in reading...
Alrighty here I am again asking for help. Back in April I got some chicks to add to my flock. Anyway got sex linked birds so I wouldn’t have This issue. the one with more orange on her neck has been suspected to be a rooster (mounting, biting us but that stopped after and was also during an...
So my bantam, which was suspected to be a hen, started crowing. Now I've heard about crowing hens and all that, but I'm not sure. We think she layed an egg because we found two eggs in our coop, one broken and one normal. The white one layed the broken egg (we saw her in action...) so we assumed...
Help! Recently, I had 3 chicks 2 of them turned out to be roosters and 1 hen, so we rehomed the roosters and kept the hen.
But lately she’s been crowing A LOT and super early in the morning. I’m worried because this is the same exact reason why we had to re-home the roosters and we also plan on...
Ok y'all! This black Silkie is DEFINITELY a hen; she just laid her first egg about a week ago. But I was up extremely early and went out to the shed to wake up with everyone. Well, imagine my immense surprise when I see and hear THIS:
Hen Hen Crowing
I was in shock. And I'm still in shock...
Visiting many exhibitions and breeders I figuerd out that most chicken breeds have their breed-distinctiv crow sound. This could be an argument if you choose a certain breed - for you and your neighbors. Some crows sound nice, gentle and deep. Other crows sound (maybe?) a bit annoying. My...
Hi novice keeper here, just unfortunately had to rehome a silver braekel chick as was crowing rather early in the morning however since rehoming another has started crowing. The crow is much quieter so likely on of the smaller bantams. Does anyone have any ideas? They are around 12 weeks.
thanks
Hello, I was wondering if my 6 week old chick, who is supposed to be a hen, is crowing or is something stuck in his/her throat. Does crowing guarantee a roo?
I’m They are either an Ancona or an Exchequer Leghorn.
Here is a link to the crow:
This morning I witnessed a chicken (that I thought was a hen) crowing like a rooster! All of my chickens are about 3 months old. “She” definitely hasn’t grown as fast as my rooster, he has a very large comb and wattle. Could “she” be a late bloomer? :( I’ve read about cases of hens crowing like...
Hi! There is something I've been noticing a lot with my Silver Duckwing Old English Game banatm hens that I have been wondering about. That is, why do they crow. The most crowing I've noticed them doing is when they had chicks or was broody. Now, my bantam pullet, Lolly, crows along side her...
Hi everyone, I have just started raising chickens for the first time. I have a small flock of 6, 1 ROO and 5 HENS, or so I thought. This A. M. my "Henrietta " started crowing. Is this a common thing or do I have a "henry" in disguise? The culprit is the Golden Buff Orpington.
I know crowing doesn’t necessarily mean cockerel, but I let my girls out this morning, and Beyoncé, one of my three SL Polish with the biggest and fastest forming crest, was on the highest roosting bar, crowing its heart out. It was super adorable!
I had to run off to work so I didn’t take any...
My 10 month old Swedish Flower Hen pullet has become standoffish, begun crowing, and insistently tidbit calls to the other hens. (I haven't witness mounting...yet.)
Last night I noticed she looks like she is developing spurs! Is this just behavioral (hen acting like a rooster) or is something...
My 20 week old Hy Line brown just started crowing in the morning. Which is a problem as I live in an apartment in downtown Tokyo(with a small yard). I've read of gender confused hens, but then again it might just be a cockrel.
Zer has been always a tad masculine (would fight crows and keep the...
She was sold to me as a hen but she recently started doing this... is this crowing or is this a normal hen sound? This is my first Silkie so they are new to me!
