Hey awesome chicken folks!
So, about a month ago I became a new chicken mama (again) to an orphaned chick. The story was that the mother and siblings were hit by a car and some visitors from out of town ended up with the baby. A friend of mine ran into them and called me. When I told my...
Hi folks, I’m after some advice please.
We have 3 khaki campbells (2 ducks, 1 drake) and 5 chickens. A few weeks ago we rehomed 3 Muscovy ducklings from someone who had hatched but couldn’t keep them. It was only ever meant to be temporary until we found them a forever home, but we’ve fallen...
Just to be clear, I understand it is probably too early to tell what sex these dudes are, I have my guesses, but I'm a total noob when it comes to chickens. I'm mostly curious what this chicken (chicken #1) really is because I have a feeling like "azure" isn't actually a recognized breed.
I...
Hi, need help chicken sexing. we purchased 10 chicks from a local hatchery a while back and now we are wondering what gender they are🧐.
sadly 4 died when we placed them under our broody hen who we decided to use as a surrogate mother😢. Later we realised they passed because there vents were...
I love barnyard mixes! They are so unpredictable and unique! Some people think they are a pain when they are trying to breed purebreds, which can be true, but I love them all the same.
So please join and chat with me about your mixes! This is your chance to brag! All mixed-breeds welcome...
This question might already be answered elsewhere, but I'm thinking of trying to incubate some of our eggs to see what kind of chickens we get. I have a Barred Rock Roo who gets around with his ladies, we have many different breeds of hens including buff orpington, rhode island red, cuckoo...
I've got two broody hens, one went into mama mode once the eggs started to hatch and the other is all about the eggs and doesn't care about the chicks. I have moved Coco (the mama hen) and chicks into a separate section of the coop so they can be together. Gucci the other hen is still on the...
(Sorry if it doesn't go here.)
Got to see Cin's chicks for the first time in a long while. They've gotten so big! And one of the ones that's supposed to be 2 weeks looks like she has adult legs already, lol! But I wanted to show off the two faves of the first group, Penelope and McLovin...
hello. I’m new here, I still don’t really understand this website but I need help with my chick. He’s two days old now his yolk should be digested by now right? He’s eating, walking, pooping, and peeping like a normal chick would. But he’s refusing to drink water. I put his beak in the water and...
I did my first incubation this spring. A friend gave me 3 small eggs from her silkies. This is the most colorful one. I am thinking cockerel because of the extra long tail feather. I am not sure what kind of comb that is it is a very pretty or handsome bird, but I am thinking not Silkie.
Friend...
does anyone here have blrw or glw hen crossed with a salmon favorelle roo? i will be getting a sf roo and plan on letting my blrw and glw hatch some chicks out, so im curious about the appearance
Are these blood rings or veins? I’m almost 100% sure it is blood rings in this egg. If it is blood rings will it still hatch?? These are mix breed chicken eggs i put in my incubator for about 6 days. Any advice is helpful.
This is Friday, my 12-14 week old EE mix. I have always thought that he/she was a hen, but now I’m not so sure. Sorry the pictures aren’t very good, tomorrow morning I can get some better ones if needed.
Do Silkie roosters protect baby chicks?I’ve noticed that my Silkie rooster doesn’t really seem to care much. Wierd how he doesn’t peck them like he did to the ones that were two months old. Even when I’m not around I still keep a close eye just in case but so far he doesn’t seem to mine them.
My white crested black polish hen just hatched a chick and is still sitting on 7 more. I have a Silver Laced Bantam rooster that's her best buddy and I'm assuming mate! I also have a red ranger rooster but he rarely interacts with her. I am wondering what kind of chicks they will be and how...
