So I’m thinking about incubating a few eggs and curious what my wheaten NN satin gal and black bearded silkie roo would hatch…. The genetics are still so dang confusing to me!
Pics of my babes
Hi hoping to confirm I think their both pullets , 4 mo old showgirl, no waddles, comb, acts like a hen, pretty uniform crown
6 week candy corn polish, no waddles, comb, pretty rounded feathers on head and body.
Sorry black showgirl hard to get good photo, she's so dark except for food on her head...
So this showgirl chick is 8 weeks and five days old which might be too early to tell what gender they are but some of the silkies they were hatched with have pretty solid comb growth so I thought maybe I could get some guesses? Also, are there any signs to keep an eye out for with showgirls...
Hi all, new BYC member here. We got some chicks few weeks ago and one of my silkies/showgirl is swelling up like a balloon on the back right side of their body.
I read here that it could be a ruptured air sac and I may need to relief her. Which I did by disinfecting that area and piercing her...
Frizzle #1 (can anyone tell me what breed this is a frizzle of? Also no idea for this one’s gender)
Showgirl #1 (pullet?)
Showgirl #2 (roo?)
Sizzle #1 (pullet?)
Sizzle #2 (Roo?)
Sizzle #3 (pullet?)
Silkie #1 (Roo?)
Silkie #2 (pullet?)
Helloooo. This is Lucille. She (I hope) is about six months old. No crows but also no eggs. Just curious any potential rooster possibility here 😳
Don’t want to go through that. Again. Lol.
I have a turken roo and four silkie hens. Can I eventually hatch out showgirls. I don't know or understand the genetics of this mix. I still have found the right book for Dummies on it either. If anyone has experience PLEASE share.
I have access to silkie roo and turken hens..... what should...
Please delete if this isn’t allowed. I lost my best roo today and I’m having a hard time dealing with it. There has been a local Bobcat sighting at two areas near us and we live right between both areas. Within the days of those sightings we’ve now lost 3 birds in 4 days and the loss of Winston...
Well, my young serama sisters (just weeks after their first pullet eggs were laid!) decided to have some chicks without my permission when I got sick in December. Sneaky girls. When I got sick, I only checked chicken food & water once daily (mornings) instead of also counting all my chickens and...
I have a Cock that came from a Naked Neck Mom & a Silkie Dad. He was born with neck feathers instead of without. If I bred him to a Silkie Hen, would any of the chicks from that be born without neck feathers or would all of those chicks have neck feathers like him? Pic is of him:
Hi, I bought some silkie chicks and most of them have hard feathering. I'm planning to breed the hard feathered ones with the chicks with the correct feathers. How many generations I'd need to breed before all the chicks I hatch have the fluffy Silkie feathering?
This baby hatched out almost fully at 7:45 this morning. This picture was taken at 12:40pm. It’s been 5 hours and still not fluffing up? Is this normal? Also still has curly toes. My incubator is 99.5° and hovering around 70% humidity.
(Edited for typo)
When I got them the breeder said they were 5 weeks old, so that should make them about 9 weeks old now. I personally think they are about 12 weeks old.🤷♀️
Aaaanyway, I know 2 of them are cockerels because their combs are huge and starting to turn mulberry colored. These 3...
I'm getting some 5 week old showgirls and I just wondered when they are sexable? Are they the same as standard silkies and take awhile? I can post close up pics when I get them.
I'm getting these little dinosaurs on Monday and they need names!
They are straight run.
I'm also getting this cockerel! I'm thinking Willy Wonka or Little Foot(Land before Time reference) for him!
I have finally added a rooster to my flock I need name ideas! He was a rescue and is in treatment for a URI, so he looks a bit under the weather right now (Currently on script antibiotics and quarantine!) but I can’t wait to see how beautiful he becomes!
Has anyone seen these bumps before on your showgirls? They just appeared over the last week. One, then three, then more, I don’t think they are mites, as my other showgirl doesn’t have these bumps and I do not see other signs of mites like dried blood. I’m hoping it’s not lymphoid leukosis, but...
I have attached the rooster (Serama frizzle) and the mom (showgirl) and then three pictures of the latest chick hatched. I found the coloring really beautiful and interesting and nothing like the parents.. is this considered partridge? Thanks!
