This baby very much gives off roo vibes just based off of the insane straight stand up posture they always seem to have. I have another silkie who’s much smaller, but from the same hatch. She doesn’t stand up near as straight as this guy. What are we thinking based off of the comb?
Hey there!
I have been searching high and low for a week-by-week growth/gender comparison for silkies, to help me guess what sex my chicks might turn out to be. I know it is almost impossible but I am interested in testing out theories!
I found two great threads on BYC that I found super...
Hi everyone! I hatched out 10 silkie chicks on 5/15 (give or take a day). I spend a fair amount of time with them all every day and have been able to guess at who’s a pullet and who’s a cockerel based off of mannerisms, feather streamers, and combs. In the last couple weeks, I have had several...
We got five Silkie chicks in May and are wondering which are pullets and which are roos. They have been difficult to get photos of, but today I got two of them! One is 8 weeks and one is 7 weeks. Both have small combs so far. But Mo gives me some rooster vibes 🤔 Thoughts?
1) “Mo” - Black Silkie...
Yes, I know they're way too young to sex. This is more just fun guesses while we wait for them to be old enough.
The pictures are labeled by name in the top left corner. There are 4 chicks in total and each chick is a different color. June and Rain are sexlinked, so I'm pretty sure I know what...
This one has me stumped. For the longest time I was convinced it was a pullet. Now I'm starting to question that. The body is more tall, long and less fluffy. It's sister from the same batch is shorter and fluffier with a rounder body and crest. This chick's voice has gotten a little deeper...
Alright so I have 2 17 week old silkies and 1 frizzled bantam cochin. I really only need help with one of the silkies. The cuckoo silkie and black bantam cochin I'm pretty sure are pullets. I need help with the other silkie. I think it's blue, but I'd like to have someone confirm that. It seems...
Hi! I’ve heard that silkies are notoriously hard to judge the gender of until they’re older but I was wondering if anyone on here was a Silkie expert or had any ideas from experience on what gender my silkies might be! 😄😄🥰🥰❤️❤️🐣 Photos down below!!
They are siblings and the white one is...
This bantam Silkie behaviorally I think is a hen. They are the lowest in the pecking order of a four chicken mixed flock (two Easter eggers, two Silkies) they are skittish, and don’t try to get to higher places like the other Silkie.
Usually they walk more squat than the other Silkie (like...
Hello, first time owner and we purchased two silkie chicks. They are now 5 months and 1 week. Trying to decide if we have one hen and one roo or if they are both roos. B now has a distinct waddle so that seems def male but wasn’t sure on A. They were hatched at same time so seems there a chance...
I was gone a week and now my sweet pullet Rosie looks a bit off. She has more tail feathers than before. Her brothers have pretty chunky tail feathers that drop at the tip. Hers are pretty thin. Her crest is a bit more messy and her comb has grown a bit. I really hope that those aren't...
I know they’re notoriously hard to sex until laying or crowing. Any input on these guys ? I tried to notate what I thought they were. A lot have similar features so if I can see what you’re seeing to distinguish between cockerel and pullet for the rest of them and that will help tremendously...
This batch was kind of a mess. I think 2 had an extra toe, 1 has a single comb and the buff has a pink comb. I'm planning on maybe selling them for cheaper soon. I just want to make sure they're all cockerels, so that I wouldn't accidentally mislabele them. Also is the brownish one a buff? He...
Ever wanted to test your ability to sex silkies? You don't have to be an expert to take a guess here! Even if you know next to nothing on sexing silkies. In these photos they are 3-4 weeks old. That's too young to properly tell the genders yet. That's why I don't expect all guesses to be...
This is Night. He's the sweetest chicken I've ever had. All it takes is for me to sit down for 5 minutes and he jumps on my shoulder.
I've always thought he's a rooster because of his behavior and scrawny looking feathers, especially the tail. His sister (same age) has a way rounder crest...
Lots of people ask me about the things I know a lot about so I've decided ot make a thread where you can ask me questions about any of these things:
Broody hens
Hatching
Helping to hatch
Raising chicks
Saving weak chicks
Sexing silkies
Raising chickens (specifically bantams) in general
Any...
Hi,
We need some help sexing two of our silkies and possibly our polish. Two of our silkies have crowed recently, while another sometimes fights with the roosters and another is very sleepy all the time, but doesn’t seem to fight with them. The polish lives in a seperate coop but has their tail...
Sexing silkies- we all know how tricky that is!
We know that you can't get it 100% correct until you find an egg or hear a crow!
But I want to know, how can you get it as accurate as possible? I'd like to gather info to help myself and others.
I might (not sure yet) get a new silkie (around...
