I may have inherited a partially blind chicken.
She practically puts her face on the ground to hunt for food. She stays close to her “sister”
The breeder offered a replacement but she’s so sweet I rather just love her.
Anyways, what are some “special needs” chicken things I need to take care of?
The chick in the front came with the girls behind her. They’re all one month old, and she’s the same breed as the one of the far left (blue laced red Wyandotte). She’s stood like this since day 1. Physical oddities include long skinny legs, inability to raise head, smushed comb (one little dot...
I am caring for special people (several) daily. I don’t have a support group because I am not accepting a title, thus the funding and support states offer.
@Blooie @Cynthia12 are two members I recall caring for others. Anyone who has experience, please join in.
Have a chick 3 days old. Was shrink wrapped in egg and had to help it hatch after 24hrs. Much smaller than the other chicks has some leg and a wing issue. Really struggled the first 24 hrs after hatching but now trying to keep surviving even with the difficulties.
It has a bulge under the skin...
I have a duck"ling" that has MANY special needs, she was born paralyzed in both her legs (she can walk now, not well, but she gets where she needs to go), her tongue is severely deformed, it's just a ball in the back of her mouth, she is pretty small for her age, and her feathers are not growing...
Wondering if this sounds like the symptoms of a blind duckling (call duck).
and if anyone has experience successfully raising blind poultry.
To start, the duckling (Forest, we will assume a boy for this thread) was malpositioned and found out was in a cool section of my incubator so was 3 days...
I have a rescue chicken who's got no top beak, and the other one is overgrown and crooked. She hates being held down, hates her head being touched, and the combo makes it worse. Is there any suggestions to make it easier, how much I should try to correct her beak. Thanks I know this is a strange...
Hi all,
with my disaster quail flock development in order (poor food choice causing severe stunting in chicks), one of my chicks collapsed a couple of weeks ago and lost the ability to walk briefly.
They’re now on a new diet, and I think they’re really starting to grow better already, even Chip...
Hello! Just rescued this black crested duck, and I took it in as there is a 3rd limb growing out of its crest. It seems well, and is super loving and sweet, as they’ve became close friends with my lone gosling(long story). Just wondering how many people have seen this, and or they’ve lived long...
Hi all 👋🏻
I purchased four chicks from tractor supply almost two weeks ago and I noticed this morning that one seems to be developing cross beak. Is it normal for it to develop later or is it usually noticeable when they hatch? It doesn’t seem too severe, but I’m not sure if it will continue to...
Ok, so I have a special needs Bantam Cochin who got to come inside for a snow storm, and is going to stay inside (there are a few reasons but I won't list them unless someone asks). Her name is Little Dorrit, she super sweet and queen of eye contact (lol). Anyways, does anyone who has, or has...
Hello, and WOW are there a lot of new introductions! We bought our 3.3 acre homestead in October here near the center of the northern Hemisphere. Just got our first batch of 33 baby chicks last Thursday as the snow storm was starting. We bought a variety of chicks for a rainbow of egg colors...
Hello backyardChickens and duck lovers. I am in a very unique situation. So about two and a half weeks ago we had a Fisher attack our flocks. We lost four of our chickens and two of our ducks. It was heartbreaking as we love our birds like a part of our family. After the attack we became duck...

We’ve have 3 chickens we need to rehome to better their lives or because they do not fit into our future breeding program.
1 Americana (Hen, Scissor beak)
1 White Cochin Bantam
1 Golden Sunbright Bantam Rooster
Hatch date was estimated to be March 31st.
Asking $30 (total) for all 3...
Cinnamon, one of my speckled sussex babies, seemed odd when we brought her home.
The other three chicks would be running around, but Cinnamon just flopped over to sleep.
At first we just joked about her being lazy, but after a couple days I realized something was wrong with her. I checked and...
I have a call duckling that hatched with a deformed bill. It looks similar to scissor beak/crooked beak you find in chickens, but I think he only has one nostril. His tongue is also exposed so I’m constantly worried it’s going to dry out and cause him pain or make it difficult to eat. Right now...
Hello, I have a Brahma that has a Neurological Birth Defect, & don't have the resources to care for her any longer, our location is in Tawas Michigan.
We keep our birds at our grandpa's house, so we get there around 1:45pm - 2:00 to care for the birds, he has the space we don't have.
This is the...
So, I’ve been raising ducks for three years and hatching them for two. This last summer we had a little guy hatch with a bad leg. At first I just thought it was a tendon problem but after taking him to the vet; it turns out it was a fused joint. He is unable to bend his leg so he is stuck...
Hi lovely people!
I’m seeking out others in Ontario that have Muscovy ducks. I myself am near Toronto, bout an hour and a half north west in a small town.
The reason I’m asking is because there’s a small possibility I might have to rehome one of my duckies :(
It’s a long story but the gist...
