    Thermometer/Hydrometer inconsistencies

So last hatch I had some problems that were related to bad or fluctuations in temps/humidity (spraddle leg in one chick, a late hatch, and shrink wrapping during hatch) so I decided that my hydrometer/Thermometer might be problematic. I bought a govee wireless dongle version so my phone would...

    What is too hot/cold????

Hi all, Newbie here to hatching eggs with a bator (so much less worry/fuss with a broody. 😃). I'm on my second hatch and was wondering what temperature is too hot or too cool for a forced air incubator? I have the Hovabator 2370 with an automatic turner. I just set the eggs this morning and...

Body Temp Thermometer in DIY incubator??

Hi. I am building a cheap incubator but I don't have a room thermometer. I was wondering if I could check the temperature of the incubator by placing a body thermometer in the water glass used for humidity, and check the water in the glass. Would that work? Of course I would have to do it a few...

    Conflicting thermometer hygrometer

I have had poor results with incubating. The last hatch 3 weeks ago was 24 very expensive Icelandic eggs with 4 hatched chicks (one died on day 3.) I've just gotten a new thermometer hygrometer with good rating - a ThermoPro TP50 Digital Hygrometer Indoor Thermometer. It says I've got 70%...

Bator and thermostat reading wildly different

Bator says 103.7, thermometer says 100 right under the heat element and 95 when placed at egg level. Checked the thermometer again and it's reading 36 degrees in ice water. Nothing much to lose, only 3 eggs in there atm. Anyone had issues like this with glass thermometers?

    Broken Brooder Thermometer

I will start out by saying that my thermometer is not mercury filled. Many people believe all thermometers are. I have 6 three week old chicks and today they decided to peck at their thermometer. Since they pecked enough, they broke the little glass bulb and red dye went all over the shavings...

Frequent temperature fluctuations between 98.6-101 degrees ok?

I've been tweaking things for a month my eggs come tomorrow. I have a diy forced air incubator with temp controller that is supposed to maintian 100 degrees but it is constantly fluctuating. I have the temp probe inside a water baggy. When the temp gets above 101 it turns the light off and...

    75F too cold for chicks?

Hi there friends! I am brand new to this, and I just picked up 5 barred rock chicks to start. I have a brooder made out of a big plastic tote with a waterer and feeder. The saucer in the upper right hand corner has chick grit, as I am also raising mealworms for when they are a bit older. I have...

What's the best thermometer for incubating?

I'm looking to buy something that's calibrate-able and going to last me a good long while! I'd prefer something that reads to the tenths. What have you guys used successfully? Can you link me up? :p
