Hello! I am very new to the chicken world & let a broody hen hatched 8 eggs. 4 fully hatched no problem, 1 died, 1 was pulled from a weak spot in the brooder by a rooster and was injured, 1 egg has not hatched and abandoned by the hen. The last one pipped then zipped part way but was abandoned. So I brought it inside and put it in the incubator. It took well over 24 hours to fully hatch but when it came out it couldn't walk, lift it's head and would flop over backwards. It's been 24 hours since then and dried fully. I just took a look at it and it's entire fave is swollen, still can't walk and it's wings stay out rather than tucked in. Is there anything I can do to save the chick? I managed to save the injured chick with some TLC and it's now fully running around, eating drinking and acting normal so I was hoping to help this one too.
Im sorry for the long post!

Welcome To BYC

I'm not sure what would cause the swelling. Can the chick swallow?
I'd try giving 2-3 drops of Poultry Nutri-Drench twice a day. Give a little drop at time and let her take it in.

See if she can eat some wet mushy feed.

Not being able to walk, are the legs splayed?

Sadly, it doesn't sound very promising for this little one, but all you can do is try and see if she improves within another day or two.
Sometimes no matter what we do or try, sometimes they fail to thrive.

If you find that you do need to put her down, this article may help you. It's not fun, but I've found this to be quick. Then you go have a good cry.
