Hi,
Have two Polish or Houdans chicks I hatched out Decemeber 21st. Both of them have double toenails growing out of thier middle toes. Bizarre! The third Polish or Houdan chick that hatched from that clutch has a cross beak.
I'm not sure which variety of chicken they are, as they were sent after ordering Houdans and finding out from the company they had stopped laying, so they sent what they could from the "crested "pen.
So I will post pics when I get back but wondered had anybody had double toenailed birds before and if you guys thought this was a genetic defect or perhaps an incubation foul up. (We had a bad temp spike early on with this batch.)
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
They are all doing fine, and are very endearing but I think this disqualifies them from any show opportunities. (4 H birds)
So here the weird feet are:
Badda$$'s feet
Blackberry's feet :
Eagle and Buddy:
Notice the cross beak on Eagle the Polish Chicken. Buddy is an Easter Egger who survived a horrible shipping fiasco.
Blackberry and Buddy
Can't remember whose feet these are. I think Blackberry's.:
Please forgive me the horrible pictures. Chickens are hard to photograph and chicken feet are a special subclass of difficult. Plus I think the brooder lamp is messing with the exposure a bit. Excuses...excuses...
So do you think Houdans, Polish or what?
Thanks for looking!
