Hi I need advice please, my 3 week old button quail are currently living inside in my house in a brooder and the temperature is 26c (78f) in the brooder and the chicks are all on the extremities of the brooder and it seems they are trying to keep away from the hot side of the brooder for the past week. Now everywhere I have read says that button quail need heat for the first 5-6 weeks of their lives. I live in Scotland so it's not exactly the tropics and at night the house temperature is getting down to 17c. Is it too early to remove the heat? They are fully feathered and it seems like the heat is too much for them. Any advice is appreciated thank you.

I'd guess if they're fully feathered, then they should be ok to remove the heat. Or at least try raising the lamp higher (if that's what you're using)

@Nabiki is really good with quail.

Thanks for the replys, I removed the heat a few days ago now and all is well. I also moved them out the brooder and into a larger cage in the house, they are all active and healthy :)

Fully feathered, I’d think they’re ready for a forever home. Feathers keep them warm so they don’t need the heat anymore. So I’ve noticed w/ my other quails. Once they’re fully feathered then they would get hot with more heat on them. I thought 2-3 weeks of heat.
