I'm usually pretty good and guessing sexes of chicks, but these have me stumped! I hatched out 16, sold 12, and these are the 4 I kept. A few I got rid of were clearly roosters. I was really hoping I ended up with mostly girls. Out of all 16 they all had the same leg thickness. I tried to go by the feathering, the tails growing in, the comb size, but none of them followed the rules! I had chicks with next to no feathers and no tail feathers but tiny combs, and chicks with full tails fully feathered out and huge combs. I'd love to hear your thoughts!!!
Chick #1 Full tail, feathers all over, darker comb
Chick #2 No tail feathers only wing feathers, but the comb is small
Chick #3 Full tail, though not as many body feathers as 1 & 4. Comb bigger than 1 & 2.
Chick #4 Full tail & feathers all over body, light comb but looks slightly bigger.
I try to watch how they act and sometimes they will crouch down, sometimes they will stretch up tall. None seem to be aggressive towards each other. I don't know, my guess is 3 girls and a boy, but it's just a guess. Curious what you other chicken experts have to say
Also, I have only 2 blue copper marans that hatched out, though they are either black or splash (my 2 blues that hatched died within a couple hours). These could very well both be boys, but didn't want to give up just yet. Both have the same legs. One is slightly larger and has feathers on the body and a larger comb. The second has a smaller comb, but no feathers other than wings. Neither have tail feathers.
THANKS!!!
