I have a 3 year old Rhode Island Red that is struggling. She has been waddling a little funny and her vent was very dirty. I gave her an epsom salt bath tonight and cleaned her off. I noticed her vent seems to be pretty puffy, it's not red or discolored, but looks swollen. Her belly also seems large and she's walking a little off. She's not egg-bound. She is eating and drinking. I did notice her poop is very watery and had some bright, almost lime green specs. She isn't roosting well, I noticed she's slept up in a next the last couple nights. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have any pictures?

Has she laid eggs recently, and have you seen any soft or abnormal egg shells? Clean her vent with warm soapy water since maggot egg may be deposited by flies in hot weather on dirty vents or on wounds. Is her lower belly below her vent enlarged? How does her crop feel first thing in the morning?

She hasn’t been laying since last fall. She started slowing down and never really started this spring. This has only come on in the last few days, so I don’t think the two things are related. It is her lower belly, her crop seems normal, but I’ll check her first thing in the morning. Let me see if I can snap some photos of her poop and vent.

Yes thank you.

The poop is a little dry, it’s dried a little more yellow than the green it came out. Before I cleaned her off, quite a bit had dried white on her feathers. It’s hard to tell but she is standing wider and bellow her vent is much bigger than normally is. She has been more lethargic today as I’ve watched her over the last couple hours. I took a little video too but it’s not letting me upload it. I’ll keep trying.

You have to upload to either youtube or the backyard chicken gallery.

She may be having a hard time expelling an egg or material like lash, it's hard to know.
Being bloated she likely has some type of reproductive issue going on. Can you tell if it's fluid?

I'd try giving her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily to see if she's able to pass anything. Give for 5days.

Work on hydration, then see if she'll eat something. Check for lice/mites, see that her crop is emptying overnight.

I’ve got some probriotic water made up and am giving her some of that. I’ll check her crop in the morning and see if she’ll take some calcium. Thanks!

Morning update, she’s still moving pretty slow. Her crop wasn’t empty this morning, so maybe it’s sour crop? I’ve got her isolated with nothing but water with some probiotics for now, we’ll see if her crop empties today and go from there. She was up and moving a little, which I’m hoping is a good sign. Still having really watery with little bits of bright green poop.
