4 week old Pekin Duckling

He walks on his “elbows”😔
Does he have a slipped tendon? You will feel what feels like a string on the left or right of the hock joint.

Niacin deficiency can cause slipped tendons. The groove the tendon normally sits in will not form properly due to the deficiency. If this is the case, it unfortunately can't be fixed.

No I don’t feel anything like that. The vet looked him over and pressed on his hock joint and said he was bow legged. But he does try to walk a little better now than a week ago and he’s standing up more. The vet said he wasn’t in any pain. I’m going to keep the hobble on him and try the high level b complex and more swimming time to see if that helps him any 😊

That's good to hear. Hopefully with the higher levels of vitamin B you will see even more improvement. If you have seen some improvement already, there is a chance he will continue to improve.

Well he was progressing and then we had a set back. I took him to another vet that I finally found who specializes in ducks and his little legs were so deformed there was no saving him 😥 one wing was bigger than the other and his left leg has calcified at the joint. His right leg had fractures in it as well. The vet told me he most likely had birth defects and it was not anything I did or didn’t do. I chose to put him down. He’s buried in my backyard in his favorite duck diaper 😢 I miss him so much but he taught me a lot ❤️ Thank you for asking about my Juicey Juice ❤️

I am so sorry you weren't able to help him. He sounds like he was a very special boy. At least he was well loved during his short life.

Yes he was! I had ordered a special tub for him and it came the day after he passed 😢 That made me really sad!
