I have a young black copper Maran that has leg mites. Last night I washed his lower legs and feet with warm soapy water and a toothbrush to gently get the dirt and any loose mites off. Then I applied some Nettex scaly mite spray and returned him to the flock. I've had a house sitter since Feb so I guess they just didn't notice his behavior. However, he went from a vibrant happy roo to a sort of ok I like to sun bathe and eat here and there. He still has a great appetite but I think being on his feet causes pain and would be reflected in his poor body condition. Please fellow mates... tell me exactly how to turn this situation around.

I've only had it happen once. A few layers of vaseline solved it pretty quickly.

Mine still acted normal. Could there be something else happening?

Did you check him over for regular mites or poultry lice?

while I had him in my arms I did do a thorough check for lice and his skin looked good. He is just losing weight. I noticed a couple sores on the top of his feet. They were just red spots where he may have pecked or something. But his body condition is poor. Losing muscle but still active and wants to participate in everything

Is there a home mix I could make that would maybe give him a boost? I add probiotics to their food.
