We picked this bird up almost four weeks ago at a chicken swap with three others. The seller was selling them straight run but told us he gave us four pullets. One turned out to be a cockerel (crowing) and we are suspecting two more are too. We haven't gotten any eggs so far and everyone has been on laying feed for almost four weeks. The RIR had most of its back feathers missing when we got it. The seller said he thought a "rooster had been getting on her". The feathers are coming back in nicely but its comb is getting bigger and bigger. The new tail feathers have a lot of black and the wing feathers also have some black in them. I'm not sure if this bird is actually 5-6 months or not like the seller said. It's not nearly as big as the other three yet but eats and drinks well and is active. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

Pretty sure the BO in the background is a cockerel.

It's a cockerel, and probably a Production Red instead of a Rhode Island Red.

Sounds like that seller ripped you off. At this age, the difference between pullet and cockerel is obvious.
