Chickenstock Returns to Delta Mills Park in Lansing Michigan on June 28th, 2025!

When: 10:00 am -3:00 pm
Where: Delta Mills Park: 7001 Old River Trail, Lansing, MI
What: Bring a dish to pass, any livestock/crafts, and your smiling face!

Dependant on HPAI presence, we may be able to bring hatching eggs and adult birds. We will find out when the time gets closer whether these are advisable.

But feel free to bring other things like plants, homemade goods, and more!

Please use this thread to let us know:

  • If you are coming 🥰
  • What dish you will bring to the potluck 🥘
    • There are usually some outlets in the pavilion, so crockpot meals are welcome!
  • What livestock you'll have for swap 🐔
  • Any additional items you will be bringing ☘️🍯
  • What items you can bring to support the picnic (i.e. paper plates, napkins, utensils, cups, tablecloths, drinks, etc.) 🍽️
  • What you might be looking for 👀
Rose has secured the pavilion with her own money and we will have a donation jar to cover the cost of rental. Please donate if you can.
If you can't, it's OK. You are still welcome.

I have created a Google spreadsheet that you can fill out yourself, but you must send me a message so I can send you the link (since this page is public, I don't want to send post it).

Otherwise, I will update my spreadsheet based on who posts what along this thread and continue to comment with what still needs to be brought.

Let's make CS2025 another fun event!

🧡
And as always, a special thanks to Raz who left these breadcrumbs for me to follow 🧡

Chickenstock Update: Below are screenshots for the spreadsheet that lists what needs we have, what to bring, and who will be attending and from where. I can fill out any of these portions on your behalf, just send me a message of what you will be bringing or post it in the thread here.

If you would like to fill it out yourself, please send me a message and I will send you the link to fill out yourself. I don't want to post the link here since this is a public page.

There are 3 tabs along the bottom for Potluck Items, Wares, and Attendees.

I wonder, if I could manage to make it some year, would anyone be interested in dubia roaches to breed as feeder insects?

I have lots of adult males and females at any given time, so if it is something that people might be interested in, I could maybe give some away with instructions on how to set up a breeding colony.

My chooks love dubias 😋 and they're one of the healthiest feeder insects. AND Michigan is too cold and dry for them to survive and breed if they do manage to escape (they can't fly though and they aren't good climbers so that isn't an issue). So no need for heebie jeebies 😆

Sounds like they would be good to keep in a mudroom like we do with worm bins up here. Although, my husband told me "no" when I expressed how much I wanted a worm bin, so I think he would probably also decline anything with the word "roach" in it :lau

Could you freeze-dry them and sell them at our ChickenStock? I think that would be profitable and I'd be interested in that!

BOOO!! Your husband doesn't know what's good for him 🤣

That's an idea... I only keep a very small colony though so I'd have to expand. And I'd have to find a way to freeze dry them 🤔 but I think it could be doable!
