The other day we finally got are 6 Easter egger chicks to complete our new flock. We have got 8 of our new flock the second week of march. We were supposed to get the 6 Easter eggers a week later. All were DOA when they arrived at the feed store around 3/22. So we had to wait until 4/1. Again on 4/1 they were all DOA. We finally got them on 4/12. We were gonna divide the brooder to separate them but they could see each other. When we tried we realized that it just was not going to give the older chicks enough room. We had played a heat lamp over the new chicks to keep them warm. We were so busy trying to figure out n set up everything different than what we planned we forgot to put water in with the new chicks . Thank God my granddaughter looked in at the new babies and to were on their lil sides almost dead. We grabbed an eyedropper and revived the two while I put in for the other little ones. I’m happy to say all six survived. My granddaughter n I were both crying.
Lesson learned. It is a must to make sure you are sure you have enough room in your brooder when adding two different age chicks. And make sure you give them water as soon as you get them home.
I’m not sure how I’m going to get them used to each other because they are in seperate browsers they can’t see each other. There is such an age difference now like 5 weeks and I have two full grown hens that are in the Big coop. I have three different groups to intergrate.
