So a friends chickens got demolished by something (thinking racoon). All but one made it through and the wife and I decided to rescue her. So now she’s in quarantine city in the dog crate in my garage. She seems wary of people but she also seems extremely docile and chill. She will eventually be going into my flock of four barred rocks. This is her!

Aw what a sweetie! How kind of you to take her in. We took in a single chicken from our neighbor who was going to cull her (in an unkind way) and she was a bit weary of people too. She didn’t know quite how to eat treats from our hands and was a little violent about it lol but soon enough she was my best friend. Best decision we made. Good luck! What’s her name?

Her name is "Banessa" lol. The little girl whose family owned the chickens named them and i promised id keep the name and take plenty of pictures. She was heartbroken but they weren't going to get anymore chickens until next year so this was the best option.

Oh, what a pretty girl 🥰 good on you for rescuing her!
Shes SUPER pretty! I thought my barred rocks were beautiful (and they are lol) but the colors on this girl are so captivating. Ive only had my 4 barred rocks for the last two years and never thought about more because the amount of eggs we get for 3 people is more than enough, but I just couldn't say no knowing my space could fit at least another 3-4 birds comfortably.

Well Banessa is a beautiful lady and it’s good to hear she’ll get a nice home and new flock mates after the loss of hers. I know what you mean when you say you just couldn’t turn her down knowing you have room. Integrating a single hen can be tough, but worth it imo.

One of our birds had to be taken out in December because she was molting and was being bullied. I just finally got her out of my basement and back living with her sisters. I had them seperated for WEEKS and when they seemed calm enough I reintroduced them but they immediately started bullying their sister. What I did after was put a door in the middle of my run and let them meet one at a time and a few weeks of that they were all good. Slow and steady but we will get banessa there! I figure at least 3 weeks of quarantine before I even let her meet her future flock mates in a sectioned off space of my run.
