Hi everyone. My name is Brandon. I am currently trying to make my life a little more sustainable. With most corporations trying to save money, hours and benefits are getting cut. The job market is pretty terrible now, so until I can find something else I'm trying to help my family by adventuring into backyard sustainability.

I got some materials to make some raised beds. We have started composting and using the compost to grow phoenix worms. We also started breeding crickets and superworms because we have a bearded dragon and some turtles. I have heard that phoenix worms are not only good for our reptiles, but chickens as well.

I just spent most of today building a roost for some chickens I plan on buying next week. Our six month goal is to also have some beehives, rabbits, and tilapia. I have some pictures of our chicken roost if anyone is interested. I'm really excited about this adventure and all the advice I could get from you guys.

I have gotten some great things from this site already so I decided to join up. Thanks for having us.

Hi and :welcome

Best of luck with your sustainable endeavours - it sounds very exciting!
Have fun (and enjoy the forum. :])

Thanks for all the warm welcome. I forgot to mention that I was from Pensacola, FL. I work at Walgreens as a photo technician. I live on half an acre and my family owns the 5 acres around me ( all wooded). So I have plenty of room to do things.

These are those pictures I was talking about. Tomorrow afternoon I will be building a base to hold the chicken roost. And placing it out in the backyard. We have decided on Rhode Island Reds for now because they are good laying hens and that's our current focus. Definitely hope we can find some pullets in the next few weeks. Thanks again for all the warm welcomes.
