Hi there, lately I've been looking into wanting a miniature horse. I love horses, but i dont want to actually ride them anymore. I use to do recreational trail horseback riding. But it's been like 10 years since I've gone horseback riding.
I'd love to get a mini, but I'd like some advice on them. I know every type of animal has its ups and downs. And I really dont want "advice" from a negative Nancy. I've never owned a horse before. But I've owned many other types of animals. Currently I have goats on my pasture.
Also a question about owning a horse. Is it best to have them be alone, or have a type of companion? When trying to buy a mini, what are some things to look for in them?
Thanks.

Is there much a difference when it comes to a mini pony vs a mini horse? Like attitude or care?

I have a miniature mule and he thinks he is a goat. I think goats would be okay to keep it company if you dont want to get 2 mini equines right away. One thing that surprised me about equines is they arent as much fun as goats lol. But I heard theyd run off without good fencing and mine doesnt, he stays in the barnyard. Minis get fat and founder real easy so you have to watch their weight.
Mine is a cross of a miniature stallion and a miniature donkey, so technically he is a Hinny. I like him a LOT more than any miniature horse ive met. He is very calm and respectful and intelligent even though he is only 2 years old. I recommend mini mules highly.

Horses do best in pairs. I did own one for a long time but he was attached to my pet skunk and hung out by his enclosure all the time if we wasn't outside (very rare).

Make sure they are up to date on all the tests, shots, hoof trimming/shoeing, and teeth floating. There are a ton of little things horses need done all the time.

Oh my! Hes so adorable!!!!
I like my goats but arnt too lovey dovey with me haha. I love to groom the horses. To me it's so soothing and calming.
