hello! i’m in kind of a specific situation here- i have a young quail couple who are both very sweet and not once have been violent to each other or any other thing around, the hen had been sitting on a clutch of eggs for about 18 days but the male is a rescue and i’m pretty sure he’s infertile, unlike most other quail i had, she’s super broody!! really putting all her effort into it and the male would sit with her the whole time and bring her food- last night i ended up in a situation with 4 newly hatched quail babies and absolutely no incubator or even heater, i know it’s not recommended but i didn’t know if i had any other chance for them to survive so i cautiously slipped them under her, luckily, she’s a great mother!! she’s doing great and protects them will all her heart. my question is about the male, he brings them food and sits on them, and will also chase me away from them (something he has never done before) so it looked like everything was well, but sometimes, seemingly for no reason, he just kind of… throws one of the chicks by the feet? like just yanks whatever one suddenly for no reason and then go right back to brooding it. he’s not chasing them and he hasn’t actually hurt any of them (i have very much made sure) but i’m still worried and don’t really know what to do here, i would just remove him but from experience i know that when separated they both freak out continuously to the point of physically injuring themselves. it’s an odd situation and i’ll take any advice
