Our chicks all hatched today except for one. The air cell had been fine the whole time, a bit on the side of the egg but still growing as it should and was stable. When I candled this egg after everyone else had hatched today, the air cell was totally detached and freely floating around in the egg and of course the chick was not alive. What causes an air cell to just detach like that?
