Have you purchased chicks from Alchemist Farms? What was your experience? For straight-run, did you get 50/50 female/male?

i have only gotten hatching eggs from her. i thought they were great quality...very nice family, local. i will ask my friend what she thought..she has gotten them a lot from her.
Following! Also interested in hearing personal experience!

I placed our chick order from Alchemist Farms. My kiddos and I can't wait to pick these cuties up soon! I'll post again when we receive them in a few weeks. :)

We picked up our chicks from Alchemist Farms yesterday! Our kiddos are over the moon with excitement.

Every chick is eating, drinking, and sleeping under their heat plate. Chicks are enjoying crushed egg yolk, probiotic water, cantaloupe, and starter crumble.

I caught my 5th grader cuddling with a sleepy chick on her chest while doing shelter-in-place school work. My 1st grader says looking at the chicks is better than video games. Yay!!

I just got my order of 3 moss egger chicks last Thursday from Francesca at Alchemist Farms. She was very communicative from the start and answered pretty much every question I had. Chick shipments were delayed because of the Cali fires but she kept me in the loop. The chicks were sent express mail, but took 2 days instead of one. They were packaged quite well and all arrived alive (she even added an extra one). Unfortunately, one was quite weak upon arrival with eyes closed and very lethargic. Another chick was weak, but not as bad as the first. The last two were strong, moving around, eating and chirping. We immediately tended to the weak chicks with the “scarf trick” probiotics & egg yolk which pepped them up a bit, but as evening came around they weakened again. Within a little over 24 hours both weak chicks died. The other two are still solid and doing well. I’m not sure what it could have been other than perhaps a rough transit from Cali - Florida. I wish I didn’t have 50% die on me, and it affirms the fact that this may not be the right time to order live chicks through the mail, no matter how well packed they are. I’d like to order from her again, but when I updated her about the deaths, she never replied. Overall I was happy with the transaction and how they were packaged. Not sure how many shipments she has sent to Florida, but I’d like to know if anyone else had this happen to them. These are the two surviving chicks:

Hi,

I’m so sorry your two chicks died. So sad, losing any pet or livestock is heartbreaking.

We live within driving distance from Alchemist Farms. I can’t speak to mail delivery. All of our chicks have been healthy. At this point we have two flocks exclusively from her farm.

Franchesca is so sweet, kind, and generous. She has always responded to my emails within about 24 hours. I personally would recommend her chicks. From my interactions with her, she takes pride in their little farm and are open and honest.

Be patient, with kid’s distance learning at home in California, and large fire that just ignited in their area (Napa County) it may take a little time for her to respond.

Yes she was very kind through email. I am aware things have been pretty rough in her neck of the woods. As I mentioned, she did pack them very well, so her part was most definitely done. Also, I hear shipment times have taken longer than what my chicks endured, so I suppose they were luckier than most. Hoping for better days!
