Has anyone ever had a flock of all male ducks? What are the pros/cons? I have 8 ducks and it looks like only 2 are going to be females. It would be easier to get rid of the 2 females than to try to get another 15 female ducks to get the male/female ratio right.

I just went thru this. I started with 6 ducklings and 5 ended up being male. Everything I've read and started to witness was true. The males become pretty dominant and can get a little mean with the females. Not too fair to the few or only females.

SO, I wanted eggs in the worst way. I did a few trades and now have 5 females and I kept one male. Has worked out very well! (I found my hens through craigslist and then on this website in the buy, sell, trade section). If you are really curious, see my website and scroll thru the duck tab and you'll see how I moved them, etc. Good luck!

All 4 of the ducks I started with were males, and I didn't have any troubles. Though they were young. I think I had gotten females before the males were really old enough to worry about it. I don't really think it would be any problem, but if you have chickens they might terrorize them. Can you get rid of some of your drakes to make the numbers more even? If you already have 10 ducks, get 6 more females, and lose 6 of your drakes. Then you won't have to worry about it, and you'll have eggs to boot!

Really dont know as I havent had all male..But you wont have any eggs..The males may try to breed with each other if there are no females..If you have 6 males that is alot of females atleat 4 females to male..I have 7 females and 2 boys...

Yes they could be...What breed are they?? I have mallards and sometimes my males even having females need to be put in there place..Sometimes they have to be split up because they get too aggressive...

I started with 2 males. Just to dress the yard up, really. Didn't need/want eggs/babies. They were such good friends, went everywhere joined at the hip.

I have rouens, black cayugas, and one blue cayuga.

My neighbor had just 3 male ducks and during breeding season they got pretty rough with each other.

I'd keep 1 or possible 2 of the males plus the two females and get rid of the rest of the males.

After all, you cant get any yummy duck eggs if you dont have any females!

My wife watched them hatch and is pretty attached to them. It may take some doing to convince her to give up the male ducks. They're getting their adult plumage now. How long until they will start breeding? I need to know how soon I would need to get rid of the males.
