Hello everyone. First-timer with a question. I do not own or raise my own ducks. However there are two families of ducks living in our neighborhood Pond behind my house. Today I noticed all of them staying out of the water and standing on the bank staring into the pond. When I looked to see what they were staring at ,it is a small alligator. My question is what will happen if they are not able to return to the water soon? I know the adult ducks could just leave but there are ducklings that are nearly 60 days old in one family, and ducklings that are about 45 days old in the other. Needless to say, I haven't seen any of the little ones fly yet or even attempt it. Just concerned because it is so hot with very little shaded areas. Wondering if I should provide freshwater to them somehow.

I did consider that, however it is so common where I live for there to be alligators in the pond, I don't know if they will remove them unless they have caused a problem. It is not my pond but belongs to the neighborhood. I thought about contacting our h o a to see if they could help. We have Gators all the time here but it's never coincided with baby ducks being around. One mother made her nest in our backyard and so we have watched the ducklings grow for nearly 55 days now. I feel so sorry for them. The next nearest Pond is about a mile away and I wasn't sure if they would attempt to move there without the ability to fly yet.

I'm going to post a picture of all the babies. I am totally ignorant as to how near adulthood they actually are. Would appreciate any feedback on that.

This is the second family. These little ones are probably a couple weeks younger then the first family. I took the top off my bird bath with fresh water in it and put it under a palm tree right outside of my gate. This is probably 20 feet from the pond and they do come up there to rest. I hope they will drink from it.
