My chicks are approximately 4 weeks old. Within the first week I had to bring one inside because they broke their leg. The leg has now healed but we are struggling getting the leg back in motion….

Anyways, I noticed Chilly (our handicapable chick) has way less feathers than the others and is much smaller. I’m assuming the slow growth is due to the leg injury, cause her body was focused on healing vs growing. But I also fear she might actually be a he 😬

I know the photos probably aren’t the most help, but if anyone can give me any tips or tricks on trying to decide Chilly’s gender that would be wonderful!

Good work at healing the chick! I hope it recovers fully. Looking at the comb in the third picture, I too am getting cockerel vibes from this one. But I think it is too soon to be sure. As you suspect, his development was delayed by the injury, and 6 weeks is the usual time to start gendering chicks anyhow. The comb is the thing to watch.
