My Ancona chickens have stopped laying eggs since the first cold spell we had in early October. We live in Central Texas and the weather has gotten better with beautiful days and cool nights. I’ve got one egg from them since the cool front. Before the cool front, all 4 were laying like clockwork. Any ideas??

It has a lot to do with the breed and individual chicken also. I am also in central Texas and 3 of my 5 hens are laying while the other two are not (all different breeds)

It's the darkness, not the cold. Chickens need 14 hours of daylight. They'll lay come late February-March.
Right now in Austin it is about 10:39m of daylight. About a hour more if you add dawn and dusk. I’ve got 12 layers and am getting about 8 eggs a day. But many are young pullets that just started laying this fall. My oldest hen is just over a year old and she is currently molting and not laying. My year old rooster just went through molt and is pushing out new sickle feathers.
