The Swamp
Hello. I am not sure if anyone else has posted this but ever since my Premium Feather Membership expired, I of course started to get ads again. But they are more annoying than they were before. I often get ads for the Scott paper towel, and it appears as a banner across my screen. Then it makes a border around the whole BackYard Chickens website screen and it does not let me click anything in BYC to get out of the ad. I have to wait until the ad disappears or get out of the site. It is annoying when I want to do things in BackYard Chickens and the ad appears. I have enough paper towel.

Have you tried using an ad blocking browser like brave? I use brave and even when I don't have a pfm I don't get ads.

I have not tried that. Good idea.

Regarding Advertisements: We work VERY hard to keep the ads as moderate as possible. Running a site as big as BYC is very expensive (servers/hardware, software, contractors, etc. etc. etc.). We need ads to keep the site free for you (and millions of other people) to enjoy. In our research the quantity of ads on BYC is less than most "free" websites, and often better-quality / less-anoying.

Regarding Ad Blockers: Please avoid using them on BYC. Ads are by far the primary way we keep the site free for millions of people. We disable a bunch of the ad placements for members to make their experience better. We also disable 100% of all ads for our Premium Feather Members (PFM). So, if you'd like to use BYC, please either do so with ads enabled, or purchase / win a PFM.

While some website owners may categorize ad-blockers as basically the same thing as stealing / shop-lifting, I don't take my opinion and perspective that far.

... that said, it is frustrating to spend a TON of time and $$$ keeping this site free for millions of people to use, and then see people choose not to buy a PFM and then also block-ads.

I saw an ad today (yes, I view BYC as a regular member with ads) that was covering up the menu at the top of the screen and reported it to our ad partners. They responded quickly that they'd try to find and block it.

There are lots of systems in place to help prevent "bad ads" from showing up, and for the most part, our ad-partner does a great job... but from time to time an image size, category, etc. is input wrong and needs to be fixed and/or removed.
